I hope they got something good to trade this and pass up on Jarrett.

THere's no additional pick in the 3rd either...they must have traded a player.

According to ESPN they have Atlanta's 2nd round pick.

Prolly no details yet, so no changes made yet on that website.

At 44 Jarrett will still be on the board. Indy and Detroit will not take him. They still haven't said what else they picked up though.

The Vikings got 43 picks for Herschel Walker and still couldn't manage to get to the Super Bowl. Watching the Vikes draft every year is like watching Terms of Endearment over and over again and hoping Debra Winger won't die.

Here's a tip. She dies every time.

I don't remember Adrian Peterson in that movie. No matter what else happens and if they take Jarrett or not, AD is a Viking.

You're right. In this version, Debra Winger wears a strap-on, rails Jack Nicholson in the ass and makes him order a tuna salad sandwich (with the tuna salad). Tarkenton comes out of retirement and runs the wishbone with Culpepper, Robert Smith, and Peterson, and the Vikes win the Super Bowl. After the game, that dude that wears the horns and the gay braids shoots a load all over Mike Tice's face on CBS. And then, Minny/St. Paul becomes a beachside resort.

I would have rather had either of the SC receivers. Spurrier receivers don't tend to do welll in the NFL. But at least the guy scores alot of touchdowns and they addressed the poorness of that position. Two playmakers with their first 2 picks.

I actually still don't care because they actually took the guy everyone including myself wanted. I will be happy about it for at least one day anyway.

I was hoping for Jarrett, but I can live with Rice.

I was thinking the same thing, but I think my opinion on Rice was swayed for the same reason others were down on Jarrett and comparing him to Mike Williams. If Rice had not gone to South Carolina I probably would have thought more highly of him.

I like what the Vikings did. Drafted 2 big playmakers who score alot of touchdowns.

Not exactly...

OK, he has better hands...but I have better hands than Williamson.

Rice Highlights:

Looks like he has good hands, adjusts to the ball very well, and good body control.

Basically the complete opposite of Williamson. Give this kid some time and don't compare him to Troy just because they went to the same school.

This might be a little off-topic and hopefully not disrespectful but...

Why are Vikings fans mostly homos??

Well, not to steal from the RSP, but Matt says this about Rice...

"A developing prospect that has gotten by on pure athleticism."

"A Project"

"He’s actually very similar in skill set to his Gamecock predecessor Troy Williamson, but with better hands."

"he won’t get to utilize his (other) skills...if he can’t learn to get open versus quality press coverage and catch the football with his hands first."

I know they went to the same school, but schools do produce similar talent. It's a Spurrier offense where players haven't transitioned that well into the NFL for the most part. I just think the Vikings could have gotten a better WR with their pick.

There is one large difference here. Williamson was the 7th pick in the draft. Rice has been taken a complete round later with Peterson already on board. The Williamson pick would not have been criticzed anywhere near to the degree it has been if he were a second round pick and Merriman or Ware were taken in the first two seasons ago.

Marcus McCauley

Height: 6-03/4 | Weight: 203 | 40-Time: 4.39

Official Bio

Strengths:

Has prototypical size...Timed speed is outstanding...Athletic and quick with fluid hips and a great burst...Physical and aggressive...A playmaker with pretty good ball skills...Has great body control, leaping ability and timing...Good tackler who will support versus the run...Has superb instincts for the game...A hard worker with good intangibles...Is able to play and excel in either man or zone coverage.

Weaknesses:

His technique and footwork can be inconsistent...Will gamble and take too many risks...Hands are questionable and he will drop some interceptions...Needs to get a little stronger...Was not really thrown at a lot in college...Has trouble locating the ball...Struggled mightily at times in 2006 and didn't have a great senior year.

Notes:

A better prospect than Richard Marshall (a 2nd round pick) was a year ago and he had a great rookie season for the Carolina Panthers...Really has all of the physical tools you look for in a top cornerback and should be able to step in and start very early on...The type of lockdown corner that every team is constantly searching for.

Sounds like a good fit for the cover 2 defense, and CB depth is needed. Not all that happy that the pass rush hasn't been addressed yet, but not a bad first day at all.

I am very happy they pulled the trigger on Peterson. Rice may be a slight gamble but being a second instead of a first like Williamson I am cool with it. The guy appears to have more physical size than a typical Spurrier receiver and his highlights look pretty impressive as far as positioning and catching the ball, which didn't seem to be the case with Williamson.

I don't worry about the pass rushing that much because they needed the skill position players and they can just as easily sign a retread like Johnstone or Simeon Rice for a year or 2 stopgap. Pass rushers in the draft are probably as big of a crapshoot as quarterbacks are.

True.

I think in an ideal draft, there would have been a good value pass rusher, but based on who was there, I can't say I can fault any of the picks so far.

Brian Robison

Height: 6-31/8 | Weight: 259 | 40-Time: 4.67

Official Bio

Strengths:

A fantastic all-around athlete...Very good timed speed and quickness...Tough and physical...A disruptive pass rusher...Has a motor that never stops and is excellent in pursuit...A hard worker with top-notch intangibles...Has some versatility...Good special teams player and kick blocker...Lots of experience...Was quite productive.

Weaknesses:

Does not have the ideal bulk that you look for...Does not necessarily translate his workout numbers to the field...Needs to get stronger...Struggles versus the run and at the point...Has trouble shedding blockers...Lacks fluid hips and top change of direction skills...Not real explosive and lacks a burst...Minor durability concerns.

Notes:

Also a standout track star for the Longhorns in the shot put and discus...Began his career as a middle linebacker...His father, Jimmy, played linebacker on Ranger Junior College’s National Championship team in the 1970s...Cousin, Casey Jones, played offensive guard at Texas Tech (1994-96)...Has a 40+-inch vertical leap...A bit of a workout warrior who could surprise...Could project to outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme at the next level...A solid backup at worst and perhaps a lot more.

A pass rusher, which is what the Vikings need. Was hoping for one of the big guards left, but I can't argue with the pick. Kiper also says he's a good special teams player.

ETA: Gave up a 6th to move up. Still have a 4th, 5th, and 7th.
