Bad news for the GOP in 2008

Recommended Posts

Et tu, Texas?

That just might be the reaction of President Bush to a new poll in the Lone Star State that shows Republicans at risk of losing his home state in the 2008 presidential contest.

Texas hasn't gone Democratic in a presidential race in more than three decades. But the survey shows Republican contender Sen. John McCain essentially tied with Democratic Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton among registered voters, with McCain at 36% and Clinton at 35% in a head-to-head contest. Republican Rudy Giuliani and Clinton also are essentially tied, at 32%-31%.

The telephone survey of 1,002 adults was taken from April 26 to May 7 by the Texas Lyceum, a nonpartisan civic group. The margin of error is +/- 3 percentage points. An executive summary of the report is available here.

Democratic Sen. Barack Obama fared less well than Clinton, though more voters were undecided. McCain beat Obama 32%-25%. Giuliani defeated Obama 32%-22%.

In the poll, nearly two-thirds of Texans said the country was on the wrong track. Four in 10 called the Iraq war the nation's most important problem. One in 10 cited immigration.

I don't read a whole lot into speculative polls, esp. this early, but it's got to be a really bad sign for the GOP if Hillary Clinton is polling as well as the two Republican frontunners in focking TEXAS!

the republicans missed out when they failed to pass an immigration bill with legs when they had the chance.

Neither side can figure this out

There is no chance in hell that Cankles would win Texas.

Obviously, but it can't be good news for the GOP when the right wing's favorite boogeyman is polling as well as McCain and Giuliani in the reddest state in the union. I just thought the results were surprising and passed them on as an FYI. I don't like Hillary and won't vote for her against any serious GOP contender except maybe Rudy, who I think is the anti Christ.

If Hillary picked Bill as her running mate, that would be way cool. I've never trusted Hillary but Bill was a great President. The Dems willl likely hold/consolidate their grip of Congress and having them control the presidency and Congress could be a recipe for trouble. I've never liked one party governments whenever we've had it in the US in my lifetime.

One thing it will do for sure is end the Iraq war --- which will probaby be worth all the other hadaches. That was is such a disaster and you need a Dem president to end this war. For some reason, George W Bush worship holds sway in the GOP base. The GOP would then be in a good spot to retake Congress in 2010 if/when the Dems go overboard. By then Iraq would be resolved.

What accomplishment of Slick's made him "great"?

Balanced Budget, Serbian War, Welfare Reform, Balanced Budget, Growing Economy, competent appointees maing government run relativly smooth, then there was his Jobs corp which was a good idea and his federal cops on the street. His foreign policy was sound, he had a great grasp of all issues. He did it all with a balanced budget.

Of course Newt Gingrich 'helped' him with some of that stuff.

Balanced Budget: Raised taxes before being sworn into office. Out of tens of thousands of Gubmint programs to cut he cut only ONE: National Defense.

Welfare Reform: Vetoed it twice. Only signed it the third time because there were enough votes to oeveride his veto. He then took credit for it.

Growing Economy: Inherited an economy coming out of recession, left with the economy going into a recession. In between his "Growing economy" was based on the dot.com shell game.

Foreign Policy: Did nothing in response to multiple terrorist attacks against the U.S. Couple this with his gutting of the Military, he projected major weakness that led to 9/11.

His Fed Cops on the streat never materialized into actual cops on the street.

Jobs Corp is nothing but a waste of money. Accomplished nothing.

Got anything else?

Raised taxes on the middle class?

I don't know what you think is "middle class", but any FAMILY making over $20,000 had their taxes raised by Clinton. I would say that hit the middle class, and a good portion of the poor.

Don't forget tthe .04 per gallon tax increase as well. Who did that hit the hardest?

my goodness do you hate the united states of america. first, it's beneath bill to be subserviant to hillary so he'll never be vp and gore won't have anything to do with either of them...which is probably the only likeable thing about him.
