What's the most amazing physical feat ...

Recommended Posts

I was a swimmer and a runner as a kid. Kinda grew up big and strong. Naturally athletic. Pool in my backyard. Spent a lot of time in that pool ... and riding my BMX bike ... it was either 7th or 8th grade ... like 1983 ... I broke 12 seconds on the 100 meter dash. My personal best ... 11.96 or something. People don't believe me, but I have quick feet for a 200 pound guy. Strange because I can't get ANY propulsion from kicking my legs scissor style in a pool, hafta kick froggy style. Just natural to me. Swam a mile, breast stroke in college ... ok, there's 3 ... swam a mile.

And I once maxed out, Olympic bench press ... 265.

I wasn't interested in my max at the time though. Did 5 sets of 10 at 155, Monday throuh Friday. Was rare thet I'd get that 5th set of 10 on Friday ... but that was my main workout. 2 days off. 5 days on. I weighed like 185 ... not ever officially timed back then ... but I never met ANYBODY taller than me that can run a faster 100 yard/meter dash. And I didn't like blocks ... all my official times are without blocks.

Until I raced a guy named Michael Bates ... and he just destroyed the whole feild of A class runners statewide. State championship, 100 meter ... I think I placed 3rd ... only kid that refused blocks though. Michael Bates just WASTED everyone though. I remember I was just shocked at how fast he was. His brother Marion was older than me, and Mario was younger. Mighta beat me in the 200 as well, I don't remember if he ran it.

So yeah ... I placed, in a race against Michael Bates. It wasn't even close though. I was used to losing some time, because I didn't use blocks, and then catching up, and passing seconds 10-12. Last 10 yards, I catch up. Micahel Bates just toasted me.

Swam a mile, broke 12 seconds without blocks, benched 265.

I think swimming a mile took the most effort. Swam it breast stroke ... since my kicking legs are worthless. Used to swim freestyle as a kid ... just not hydrodynamic for my adult body, or whatever. I swim like a frog. That took a couple months of preperation ... was a class ... 1 credit, in college. Had to swim a mile to pass. I was the slowest person in the class to finish ... but I was also the only one that swam breast stroke.

Its a tip that you can't breath while under water.

I remember a meet ... I was anchorman for my relay team ... and the other team had ... I'm not sure if it was Michael Bates, think it was the same meet, ... but a super fast guy right off, and my team ran their hearts out, and I was not far behind, good batton pass was perfect ... and we won. I passed up their anchor man.

Top notch speed, once I'm already moving.

I'm actually a pretty good QB. I have a short pass I can throw like a dart ... and you can't drop it. It will flip right into your hands. If I don't have an offenive line and can't get off the short passes .... I'm gonna just chuck it. Long ball ... forget it ... I can run though. Designed snap and run up the middle, fine ... but I can't thow it deep or scramble.

Overhanded, flipped, forward pass.

Am I'm like amazing at this. Throw the ball like a lazer to the crossing pattern TE. And I don't care if he supposedly can't catch ... just be in the right spot, it will flip into your hands. Can't drop it. If it's a nerf ball.

I was never the kid that could throw the ball or catch the ball on a serious level. I was like the big white freckled kid ... determined to pull your flag and get the sack. Every time. I've told this story before and I thought it was Rodney Peete, I forget the kids name ... big black Quarterback ... and I was the big white linebacker. 165 pounds is big in the 7th grade.

Every down ... even after the whistle I would pull his flag ... and during a game, I couldn't sack him, he'd throw the ball away before I could sack him ... but I'd still pull the focking flag. That's it ... that's the end of your time ... throw it away or I sack you. And he just ran his shoulder into my chest and flipped me upside down ... and I got right back up ... but the coach made him run laps and he ended up at a different school. Rodney Pete was older than me ... don' think it was him ... was a black quarterback ... the entire team depended on him ... and I was the unstopable defense.

I don't think he understanded ... I was frustrated, I didn't get the sack. All about when you pull the flag.

If there was no "5 one-thousand" or whatever the rules were ... he never woulda completed a pass. In practice I once took the ball from the center and QB. Not determined offsides, I just climbed over your focking center, and TOOK the ball from you.

And .... I'm the only white guy on the team.

Sorry. Everyone OK? Our ball.

I am like a monster for the ball. See Teddy Bruschi. All motor. And that's it ... that's what makes a great football player, is motor.

Teddy Bruschi ... Arizona Wildcat ...not the biggest, not the fastest guy in the NFL.

Serious motor.

I once leaped a tall building in a single bound. But superman sat me down and had a "talk" with me about infringing on his rights a as the only one to do that.

Tall buildings in single bounds?

That's gay. I wanna see Superman chase down Michael Bates.

You never seen speed like that.

FYI Mario deserved to get his jaw broken.

It was always clear ... Michael was the superstar. Mario was a punk azz bich.

I coulda told you that ... years ago. Michael is what ... 37? My age? I bet he'd toast just about anybody, STILL ... in the 100 meter.

Let me rephprase:

NERDS ... ever do anything physical worth bragging about?

Picked your nose until it bled, or finished a Rubik's Cube by peeling off the stickers? Anything? Work with me here.

My best would be a multi homer game in high school. One from each side of the plate. Not too much of an amazing physical feat but its not easy to hit home runs both left and right.

Do people still talk about when you kicked azz?

That's what matters.

I'm a 37 year old bald guy with a beer belly. I go swimming in my apartment complex pool ... and they say ... "Look at the fat bald guy!" .... but soon after, they say, "Look how good the bald guy swims! He's like a dolphin!"

And then the hot college chicks all want to have sex with me. Life is great.

Besides being bald .... with a beer belly.

Eeee, eeee, eeeee, eeee!

I carried 48 lifeless bodies to safety from the twin towers on 9-11. Also, I just recently pulled 18 people from the carnage after the bridge collapsed in Minneapolis.

Ran a marathon without training for it. Longest run was 6 miles in the 10 years prior to running the marathon.

How the hell did you make the state championship and place third with a personal best of 11.96. Im not even sure that time would qualify someone for regionals and you would get dusted by a full second.

So basically you admitted to being slow...and then lied (shocker) about being in the state championships.

Ummmm...ya. In North Dakota (very few high quality sprinters), you have to run 11.2 to even qualify for State.

11.96 wouldn't get you a "sniff" at placing. Nice try, though, toolbag.

Alright, now, EVERYBODY avoid this idiot and see if he goes away.

Hell, looking at the website for Tennessee...the girls champion in 1982 finished in 11.9 seconds...

Most of the girls state champions in the 100m finished right around 12 seconds.

I don't recall what I ran for 100m. I never really ran it individually.

I ran the 400m mostly. Then would run the 4X200m relay and the 4X400m relay.

The only time I really remember running is a 51 flat in the 400m. And while that was good, highest I finished in any of the bigger meets was 3rd in Knoxville at the time.

Then again, you don't see me bragging that I ran just faster than a girl (and slower than some girls)

Just got back from a camping/kayking/fishing trip to the UP of Michigan. The 2nd day, we went to sylvania wilderness area. That day, i kayaked 14 miles, 7 against a 20mph wind, and portaged maybe 2-3 miles. That was tough, i remember i paddled for a mile and a half strait without any breaks at all because the wind across this one lake was blowing about 30.

I would say my best physical feat, maybe squating 525lbs about a month ago, leg pressing 1100lbs, curling 150lbs, my bench press kinda sucks though. Not much of a runner though, a mile is even pretty tough for me. I am really good though at doing things like hiking, portaging, and non-running conditioning activities. In HS, i was only on the football and b-ball teams for a short time, so, not much of team sport person...
