Who are you voting for in '08

Recommended Posts

Well.. if these are the options, they are much better than the options in 04. I don't know much about Fred Thompson, what is he for?

Well, we know he's pro-life, he doesn't like Michael Moore, and he has a hot wife.

Other than being pro-life, he seems alright.

Right now, its Obama. After that, i'd go with Ron Paul. Both of those guys seem like they would, or at least make an honest attempt, to do what they say they're going to do. I know they're pretty opposite on their stance but i think either way can work, as long as you have competent people executing the plan.

I just don't understand why anyone would vote for Hillary though.

Why not?

I think this country needs some significant changes.

for one, the war is a very hot-button issue. Even NOW she is backpedalling saying she'd probably keep the troops there, at least for a while.

The other, for me, personally, is socialized health care. I think everyone in this country SHOULD have health care.

I just don't think I should pay for it. We've already seen how poorly our government manages things. Plus can you even FATHOM the cost out of our pocket books??

Health Care is NOT...I repeat NOT a RIGHT guaranteed to us by our government.

Health Care IS however, WAY too expensive. If taxpayers had to pay for it, it would KILL OUR ECONOMY.

Ron Paul ® - Texas

Why?

*Get out of Iraq

-Was opposed to it BEFORE we went in (1 of four R's that voted against it in 2002)

*HUNT DOWN OSAMA BIN LADEN

*Drastically cut the tax burden on the American People

*Change America's Foreign Policy to non-intervention, but keep trade lines open with all nations

*Cut Welfare State

*END Illegal Immigration

*NO AMNESTY FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS

*Immigration Policy Reform

*Allow younger citizens the option to get out of Social Security and defer retirment to privatizations (untaxed 401k's, etc)

*Free Market Economy

*Abolish the Patriot Act, Military Commissions Act

*Repeal Roe vs Wade, although allow State Government to decide if it's legal or not, not Federal Government

*End Entitlement System

*Run Government based on the Constitution

These are things he's been saying for over 30 years, very much like Ronald Reagan did.

He and Ronald Reagan were good friends, long before he was President, and Ron Paul was one of 4 Congressman to endorse Ronald Reagan in 1976 for the 1980 Election.

He also has more Campaign Funds than John McCain and easily has the largest internet support of any candidate, Republican or Democrat.

Here's an exerpt of what he says today

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWfIhFhelm8

This is an interview of his principles in 1988.

10 Term Congressman from Texas

His Voting Record is impeccable

He has never voted to raise taxes.

He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.

He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.

He has never voted to raise congressional pay.

He has never taken a government-paid junket.

He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.

He voted against the Patriot Act.

He voted against regulating the Internet.

He voted against the Iraq war.

He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.

He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.

Sounds all well and good except for the Reagan part, but he won't get elected.

Really? What exactly makes you so sure?

He's gaining alot of popularity. I firmly believe he has a chance, and honestly he's the only Republican who'd have a chance against the Democratic Nominee, simply based on what Bush's Administration has done. The Republican party will reel from his actions for years.

(I also realize I'm a bit biased....)

Reagan was a great President (IMO), but the one thing I really hated about him was that he alone ran up our deficit.

In reality he ran it up to defeat the Russians in the cold war, and it worked. Without firing one bullet, we won.

And that is HUGE. But the downside is he way overspent and ran into debt.

The problem really is that every President/Administration hasn't stopped spending the same fashion. Once government gets their fingers on the money, they NEVER wanna let it go.

we've failed to fix this national debt since his administration, and something has to be done.

It's a focking shame we can't vote for Bush again. :overhead:

Why not?

Because, short of Bush, she is the most polarizing person in American politics today, which is SO not what this country needs right now.

I'm gonna love it when she gets elected. Brace yourself.

It won't happen. If it does, I'm probably going to grab my parka and snowmobile suit and learn to speak French.

Finally, a sensible answer.

You probably could have gotten away with:

1. She's a woman

2. She's a crazy woman

3. She's a crazy, liberal woman

4. She's a crazy, liberal, power-hungry woman

5. She's Bill's wife

6. Bill Clinton would be back in the White House

These are great examples of answers that are not sensible.

I voted in 92, 96, and 2000. I stopped voting in 2004. I just have lost faith in all of our politicians. I know that sounds bad. But I don't see a difference between the dems and repubs. I've been registered both at different times and disappointed by both most of the time.

Until someone steps up who doesnt cater to the special interest groups(which may be impossible in todays world), I don't see either side with a decent candidate.

Fred Thompson will get my vote. He has stated that he does not even want to be president, which is why he is running his campaign strictly on issues, and will not waiver on them in order to try and get swing votes or make himself look PC.

He said he is not running to win, but rather to solve problems.

I might vote for the guy that looks like he got his wife hot off the escort service. She's a few decades younger than him, and a hottie.

Dennis Kucinich. And yes she is smoking hot. I thought it was his daughter at first till they started kissing on the lips and groping each other.

I'm sure because the american public, for the most part, are stupid...for lack of a better term. He's just not electable, he doesn't have the cash to make it. Unfortunately, that's what it's all about nowadays. I agree with you that he has some good ideas, not that he would come through on any of them. he's a politician just like the others so I really don't trust him. One thing that is really pissing me off is that the election is still more than a year away and I'm already tired of the tv ads. I live in Iowa and they have been running for at least 6 months! Campaigning is far too long and too costly IMO. We could be doing alot more good with the money that is being wasted on these political campaigns. It's all a bunch of BS anyway. I'm real tired of politicians. Like I said before, they don't give a crap about the average american citizen.
