McAllister (as early as last year); just horrible luck that he tears the ACL in his other knee

Jamal Anderson came back in 2000 to post a 1,000 yard season

Jamal Lewis looked good after missing all of 2001 and within 2 years challenged for the all-time single-season rushing record

Key though, with just about all examples made:

-took a couple years before they performed close to/equal to level they had before injury.

-in many cases though, some don't ever get there, or if they do, it's short lived.

ACL is not a career ender !

Jamal - came back to get 2000 yards

Edge - came back to have some great seasons in Indy and still looks solid

Willis - Totally blew up his knee -- came back and a solid RB

Duece -- came back and the next season had a great year.

F. Gore -- tore both ACL's -- had a unreal season last year.

I expect Brown to be around 90% for next season.

Again, in just about all these examples, except Deuce who came back to do well as part of a RBBC and not carrying a full load, took a couple years before they returned to or attained a high level of play.

I think heart had some Blood thing with his ankle and had to do some kind of surgery to fix it - and that he was close to having to have his foot cut off or something. Don't remember hi having an ACL tear -- But maybe i'm wrong.

Disagree with you here a little.

Maybe they were't as great but they didn't suck either. Jamal - actually did well considering his team was awful that season after he came back. Edge actually looked pretty good and had a few double digit TD games that year , Willis - okay - but he totally blew up his knee - couldn't even play the following year -- but the first season he started playing he played better than he ever has since. F. Gore - not fair as he never had a real chance to play as he injured the other ACL after the other one healed. Duece ???

My point was a Blown ACL isn't the same as it used to be even just 5 years ago -- With todays medicine and Dr. Andrews :pointstosky:

I expect RB to have a nice 08 season.

all the guys listed have gone on to have success, though I will agree not all of them were QUITE as explosive as they once were...Edge coming to mind.

Terrell Davis never recovered from his

Terry Allen tore both and had a very good career afterwards. :dunno:

Ok, we have a pretty good list of recent players who've had some success after an ACL tear. Albeit, not all of them had that much success the following year. Now lets see the list of guys who DIDN'T come back. :dunno:

J Anderson ATL comes to mind.

I've read that the nerves never regrow in that damaged area, so even though the knee may return to full strength structurally, the muscles around the tear will never behave in the same manner. This can cause athletes to overcompensate with the other leg or change the way they run, even if ever so slightly, which can cause injuries in itself to the other leg.

It's not good. It's a real shame because us Miami fans were waiting for Ronnie to break out and the instant he does he has a career-changing injury.

This, being a 2nd tear of an ACL, with Deuce scares me. Not too many come all the way back from 1 torn ACL, but how about 2(both knes).. Maybe F.Gore is the only one I can think of that has played and played well after having BOTH leg's ACL torn. I could be wrong though. Jamal Anderson was never the same, no TD. I wasn't aware that Terry Allen had both leg's ACL's torn.

only player who haven't are Jamal Anderson ( and that was only after the second tear same knee I think )

Terrella Davis was the only player I can think of to have 1 torn ACL and NOT make it back.

Back in the 80's it might of been a career ender but these days it's a 8 month thing - with Miracle worker Dr. Andrews.

and I'll have to counter disagree with you. :pointstosky:

note that I say 'took a couple years before they performed close to/equal to level they had before injury.

Edge had 2300totyds/18tds/4.4ypc/0 games missed year before his injury

Year after his injury 1300totyds/3tds/3.6ypc/2 games missed

2 years after injury 1550totyds/11tds/4.1ypc/3 games missed

So not saying, not productive, just not near what he did before injury in that first year back.

If you look at other RBs listed stats, will see similiar (again, except Deuce) numbers. If want to debate totyds/tds b/c of number of touches, fine, but considerable drop in ypc and increase in games missed pretty consistent.
