Cuse9 131 Posted November 9, 2007 "Any kid under the age of 18 caught riding a bicycle without a helmet would subject their parents to a $25 fine?!" I can see having a youngin that is just learning how to ride a bike wear a helmet, but if your kid is 13...14...15....they aren't going to wear a helmet!! Do they yank his bicycle license after three strikes? Is it just me or is this a completely rediculous law proposal! Link to proposed bill This is in Kansas. The law was proposed after Senator Roberts got in a bicycle accident and his helmet saved him from serious injury.
patweisers44 871 Posted November 9, 2007 Wont this end up like motorcycle helmet laws.....i know in michigan they are almost unenforcable. Something to do with the wording of "approved" helmets...no law agency is willing to "approve" any helmets for fear of liability.
Mephisto 15 Posted November 9, 2007 It's been the law in many states for some time now. Put a helmet on the child and leave it be.

wiffleball 4,797 Posted November 9, 2007 I honestly don't know when the helmets for bicycles thing came to be. We rode around all the time without helmets. Then, I went to college and at some point I sobered up enough to see all these little faags with helmets on. I can't place a specific date on it, but I'm pretty sure the pussification of America started with that particular phenomenon. And, I've worked at Craig Hospital (best spinal /brain injury hospital in the world). I am a strong proponent of motorcycle helmet laws. 90% of the patients there were males 20-35 who were on a motorcycle at the time of their injury. All you have to do is put a cantelope in a helmet - and one without a helmet - and drop them from 10 feet to tell you everything you need to know about that. But, unless you're at the velodrome, kids just rarely need that kind of overprotection. They're not working up the kind of velocity to necessitate it. If they or their parents want to wear it, fantastic. But it shouldn't be a fricking law.

GettnHuge 2 Posted November 9, 2007 Once upon a time kids didn't wear helmets and the real fockups died young. Now those same fockups wear helmets, survive childhood and grow up to be fockup adults who instead of crashing on their bike, drive drunk and smash into a family on the highway. helmet laws suk
shake_a_leg 0 Posted November 9, 2007 I read an article in the newspaper not too long ago that talked about a study that showed people who wore helmets while on bicycles were actually MORE LIKELY to be hit by a car or in an accident because motorists tend to think that a guy with a helmet is a safer rider, therefore leaving him less room on the road and clipping the handlebars... causing death by run-on sentence. HELMET LAWS SUCK. THE BAND, however....fockin ROCKS!!!!
FranksTanks 0 Posted November 9, 2007 I agree, what the hell is a law going to do and how do you enforce it? Better yet, why waste our law enforcement's time trying to enforce it. Don't enough places do enough to educate and encourage kids to wear helmets? Keep it in school. have a cop come in and show a slide show of kids that got worked over because they didn't wear a helmet. On a side note, I wear a helmet snowboarding. But I had to learn the hard way. I've hit my head twice very hard. Once without a helmet, so I bought a helmet, then a year later I hit my head and broke that helmet. Thank god I never landed on concrete.
