**Round Two Draft Commentary**

Recommended Posts

Just looking at the difference in going MJD vs say Edwards......

Trying to gauge the dropoff at each position. I am thinking I could still snipe a decent RB in the 3rd at my next pick, but wont approach the value of an Edwards or Johnson....

To me the disparity between MJD and what I might find at my 3rd round pick is much smaller than that between Edwards/Johnson and what I might find there....

That makes sense. It's more of a regret about position than player is what I hear you saying.

It's similar to what the Soloist has done with another high-powered offensive team. He chose Barber and Owens...you chose Addai and Manning.

I can't fault either of you for loading up on players from high octane offenses. That's usually a pretty smart strategy.

Also, I took Manning and Addai in the IBL last year and they provided a rather powerful force for my team....

Well, I have most of Indy's scoring tied up.

:dunno:

Right or wrong, I have a handful of players at RB and WR that I don't see as that different in value. I went with what I perceived as a value pick in Manning. 35 TD potential every year. I usually don't like a RB and QB from the same team, unless it's going to be a team that scores a bunch. I see no reason why Indy won't score a tone.

:dunno:

I am a big fan of a good Qb/Rb combo, and this one qualifies. So many times a Qb takes the ball down the field, only to hand it off to the back from the 1. many times the opposite occurs. Your back does all the work, only to then fake the dive from the one, and have a pass go to a TE or wide receiver. It seems you cover both scenarios with this fine offense in Indy, and will always get something. I like the combo, and they are money! Nice start!

Yep. These early picks are the way to go. Stud back followed by value in the late second. We're going to have to work hard to keep up, remote......

In my estimation, Addai at pick #5, then a top wideout, is about as good as it gets this year.

Feels like you and I are just talking to one another today, remote....commentary has been a little slow from some of the others.

I've had a few things to do here and there, but I think really that there just hasn't been anything outlandish for people to rip on.

Come on . . . by this time last year, I had already drafted Brandon Jacobs . . . much to everyone's consternation.

The problem I see with this scenario is that the only way your QB and RB can score is if it's a QB -> RB TD pass. Otherwise only one of them can score at a time. That's why I like the QB/WR NFL combo but not QB/RB.

I thought Fitz came cheap, and Clash got a very good value in Jamal Lewis. How can you go wrong with Manning in the middle of the 2nd also?

I don't think Jamal will repeat last season's performance, more like in the middle of '07 and '06 numbers. So he's right there with a bunch of other RBs for me. That's why I went WR with my second, even though I still don't have an RB. There will be very little drop off from Jamal to the RBs in the 3rd at my next pick IMO.

I see your point, but there is another way to look at it. By having both QB and RB on a team without a designated goal line back, you put yourself into position to get about 95% of the team's offensive TDs. On a team like Indy that can add up to some serious points.

True, but given a QB/RB combo like the one in Indy, either one or both will score every week. You're almost never going to see a week when neither Manning or Addai get a TD.

So the QB/RB combo doesn't have the ceiling that a QB/WR combo has, it also don't have the floor.

Ah, yes...the Brandon Jacobs pick.

Good times, good times.....

True. Even if Manning and Addai alternate scores, for Indy, that's still probably 2 a piece on average per game. But they're probably the only exception to the rule.

A Qb/rb combo like Warner to Faulk was super! Some backs catch up to 5 td's a year.............If I can pair one of those with their QB, I feel like i've got something going on.

2.01- Fumbleweed- WR Reggie Wayne, Ind.

2.02- Remote Controller- RB Larry Johnson, KC

2.03- The Soloist- WR Terrell Owens, Dal.

2.04- Ray Lewis' Limo Driver- RB Maurice Jones-Drew, Jax.

2.05- JScott- WR Braylon Edwards, Cle.

2.06- Fantasy King- RB Ryan Grant, GB

2.07- Dan- WR Andre Johnson, Hou.

2.08- Paulinstl.- QB Peyton Manning, Ind.

2.09- Gratefulted- WR Larry Fitzgerald, Ari.

2.10- Clash of the Titans- RB Jamal Lewis, Cle.

2.11- Vikings4Ever- WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Cin.

2.12- ICEMAN- WR Marques Colston, NO

-----------------------------------------------------------

I'm still not seeing a player that would have been a better selection for me, in my situation, other than maybe Manning. Then I would have had a top Wideout, and top Qb, and been scrambling at RB.. I am happy to get LJ in the second, as that is rare air for him, and I feel he has a good chance to be a solid #1 rb for me. I love where Grant, Manning, Fitz, and Jamal were taken. I don't see a bad pick in the bunch.

You're right, remote. This is pretty solid. Even the Johnson pick is a trash & treasure type pick. I wouldn't pick him . . . as I believe RLLD said . . . but neither can I fault the reasoning that drives one to select him.

OK, I thought Wayne at 2.01 worked, liked the pick and since Moss was already gone it put those who followed in a place where perhaps they were getting a little itchy about getting a WR, but what followed was not a true "run" which I also thought interesting and also alludes to the skills of those in this mock....

In this mock, and the IBL, last year some of you may recall my ardent refusal to even draft LJ, I could not be more in that mindset this year. For me he is undraftable as I would not touch him until I have two starters at RB, and he would certainly be gone long before I looked for my 3rd....I have no confidence at all in KC to allow LJ to flourish this year, and so for me he remains a #3 RB....JMHO

The rest of the round was spot-on IMHO, and Paul sniping Manning at 2.08 must feel flipping great, nice pull on that one....I look forward to seeing how you manage the WR position later....

Another quality round, though in hindsight I wish I would have gone Edwards or Johnson over MJD.....but this mock really helped illuminate the values for me and will help me build a better draft list...
