Any body worried Kobe or Labron won't be in the NBA in 2011?

$50 million? Kobe Bryant says he'd play in Europe for that

Not even a week has passed since NBA brat pack-member LeBron James hinted to some friends that he might be open to a jump to the Euroleague if the money was, but we can now add Kobe Bryant to that list.

You can check a Boston Globe blog on it here, but Kobe said as much during a USA Basketball press conference in Beijing Friday morning.

“I’d probably go,” he said. “Like Milan or something like that, where I grew up or something like that…Peace out. Do you know any reasonable person that would turn down 50 [million dollars].”

As some analysts around the league have already pointed out, if either James or Bryant actually did leap at such offers to go overseas, you can almost guarantee that NBA commissioner David Stern would not sit quiet. He couldn’t stop them, but he could lobby and execute the oft talked about European NBA division.

Unless the NBA did away with its own salary cap, we’re not talking about a European expansion club per se. But this current NBA to Euro trend could have some lasting effects when its time to reexamine the Collective Bargaining Agreement in 2011.

Coincidently that’s the same year that both Bryant and James will be looking to sign new deals themselves.

These guy would be nuts to turn that kind of cash down. Sucks for the NBA and NBA fans, unless they figure something out.

Not worried in the least. If they'd rather go play against B-league talent just to make more money when they already have more money than they can spend, I say fock 'em, good riddance.

Kobe already has won a couple of championships (with Shaq..i know...whatever). Lebron hasnt won crap. If he bails to Europe or wherever WITHOUT winning a championship, he should be labelled a loser and should never be compared to the all-time greats.

Not saying you NEED to have won a ring to be an all-time great, but you should have at least died trying. I absolutely focking hated Karl Malone and am not a big fan of guys like him, payton, Ray bourque (in hockey) etc. whoring around to get a ring, but can respect them for still trying to win.

I don't watch the NBA until some of the finals maybe. I was just thinking recently how happy I am that the NBA players have buckled down to show the world that they are the best in the world by playing defense and team play on offense. I have even decided to look at the NBA section of the sports page during the regualr season and start maybe watching some playoffs. A euro division of the NBA makes sense. Not sure how Euro feels about it. If I had to decide between possibly not being considered an all-time great and 50 million. I take the cash, hands down.

Yeah, but does any team in Europe have 50 mil a year to spend on a single player? If they did, i think A LOT more NBA would be going, more than just a few mediocre players. Lets see, get paid 50 mill a year, probably average 50ppg and win a championship every year, plus get to live in Europe with all dem wimmen, drugs, and great overall places to live? Yeah, no one would turn down that.
