I'm not sure I equate bigotry with forward thinking. Please explain how intolerance for racial slurs is outdated?

 

And if you think there's just a few random comments from folks on this silly site, and it in no way indicates a latent view of race most Americans foster, you yourself should be questioned for your inability to rationalize.

 

The issue of race has been swept under the rug for years. And people like you point to the fact that we don't lynch or burn crosses or promote segregation as evidence of the disappearance of racism. It just ain't the case.

 

I applaud peenie for staying her ground in this instance.

I don't choose to judge someone based on their color, and neither do the people I know whether they're black, white, green or plaid. Maybe it's a generational thing....or where I've lived (Detroit, Ann Arbor) I've witnessed different races that don't make assumptions on eachother. They realize differences in skin color, culture, and ideology, but don't assume the worst because of differences.

 

I'm not a McCain fan, nor am I an Obama fan. I wanted to believe in Obama when he first hit the national scene because he did not sound like a politician to me. I embraced his lack of experience because I believe Washington is a dirty place filled with people who've sold their souls (now I'm broad brushing :thumbsup:) But in this presidential race I see he's not above playing the politician game. And I don't believe in a redistribution of wealth as healthy for the economy or our country as a whole.

 

4 years ago I voted for Kerry because a vote for Bush would mean a Republican President, House, and Senate, and that's a bad recipe. This year I will probably be voting for McCain because I believe a Democratic President, House, and Senate is a dangerous recipe.

 

I believe in the American people (at least some of them), but I am biased against the politicians in Washington.

 

Here's to 1 year term limits for everyone in public office :pointstosky:

i know not all white people are racist.

however, i don't like that the non-racist ones make excuses for the racist ones.

To be honest, Obama's connection to Ayers bothers me less than the deceptive distancing from it. "Some guy in the neighborhood." It might be deceptive, but of course it should be expected that he'll downplay it. The vast majority of politicians would. I'm not a McCain supporter, if I could vote (no ssn) I'd vote my conscience and be voting for neither. BUT, especially if you're supporting the other guy, of course you'll harp on that. You need to rank your cheat sheet. James Buchanan is #1 overall, in a tier all by himself. He sat back and did nothing as the Civil War broke out.

 

Why does everybody forget history? It wasn't even that long ago, some 150 years. Nothing, nothing that Bush did or didn't do, and not much of it was right, can possibly compare to the Civil War.

Well he's inheriting a mess. I doubt he's going to be a middle of the roader. It'll be way up if he solves our problems or way down if he doesn't. As will the Dems chances in 2010.

Yes, he is going to have a shitpile to deal with...I think he'll quickly realize he will have to scale back a lot of his "ambitious" plans. If it ends up FAIL...well, there would have to be a 3rd party movement that gains a lot of ground. Maybe, finally, many incumbents will be thrown out and the likes of Pelosi and Reid can be sent into retirement. If Buhrock wins...there's no one to blame on the part of the Dems...it's all in their hands at that point.

 

What might come out of all of this is fundamental change in political party history. Continued failure should bring about new parties...and maybe the fall of the old two. Buhrock has a long road to go. Any "honeymoon" will be incredibly short and if things don't start turning for the better 6 months into his first term it will get very ugly here on many fronts.

 

The real winner will be McCain, retiring to Arizona.

Where in the Constitution does it say that you can't leave the Union? You know the Declaration of Independence?

Sounds to me like the Founders were ok with people changing their political unions at the will of the people.

 

That said, I'm glad you guys won the war, as I don't think I would want to live in an agrarian slave society. And thanks for burning down Atlanta. Isn't it getting to be about time you do that again?

The problem is not the color of his skin, the problem is that you and millions of other Americans will vote for him because you want more government and more government hand-outs, period! The fact of the matter is that at least 50% of Americans are clueless on the issues that should be of utmost importance and most Americans do very little DD when choosing a Presidential candidate. Instead, they vote for a candidate based on looks, charm, popularity, and meaningless sound bites with no substance!

 

Most of you on this board are even too stupid to realize some basic, simple facts about the tax base in your own nation e.g. that some 40% of Americans don't even pay any tax! So when Obama says that 95% of americans will get tax relief, he is saying that some of the tax dollars from 60% of Americans will go directly to 40% of Americans in the form of a FREE, government check (handout!). Why should any american that doesn't pay ANY taxes get a damn check from the government

I used to like McCain. If he hadn't sold the fock out to get a nomination, I'd still like him. I sat down months ago and pulled up both campaign websites, and read their stances on all the issues. I've watched every debate going back to last year.

 

The fact is, the Republican party brought nothing new to this election. They brought the same crap we've had for 8 years. Then they are surprised when we reject it? What part of 27% approval rating, and worst president ever, did they not get?

 

Is Obama charismatic? Yes. Does he speak well? Yes. Does that mean he has no substance? No. Hey, face it, these things matter in elections. You think you guys would have learned that when Kennedy handed Nixon his azz decades ago. If you were gonna spout the same crap from the Bush admin, you should have at least had someone who doesn't resemble the focking cryptkeeper come out and spout it.

 

But you didn't, and you will lose. Get over it.

Since I am getting crap in two threads over this, I will just quote my response in the other thread, to save time.

 

First of all, cheering when someone does die and advocating their death is different.

 

Secondly, yes. I take them 100% at their word. Crazies advocating the assassination of a candidate at a rally is a much more credible threat then my advocating the opening a "Left Behind Fan Club Death Camp" on a message board.

 

One of the reasons its more credible is that they have the power to carry through on their threat, I do not.

 

But, this statement, a probably ill advised attempt at humor, seems to have been poorly recieved. So lets see if I can resolve it thusly.

 

I was wrong. I do not endorse the creation of a death camp for anyone. Calling for the violent death of anyone, be it a political candidate, or a group of people with "interesting" beliefs, is wrong, and I apologise to anyone who was offended. I never intended for such comments to be taken seriously, but obviously, some did. I hope that clears up any percieved hypocricy.

 

Now, to the extent that such comments, or any others I have made, make me appear to be an eliteist... I'm fine with that. I do think that believing that "Obama rode in on a white horse (his mother)", and is the "southern king (Kenya being south of Jerusalem)" and whatnot, and that therefore, Obama is the Antichrist, central figure in Biblical apolcalyptic prophecy, makes you a mouth breathing idiot of the lowest possible order. If that makes me a snob, or an eliteist, then so be it.

 

Any other concerns, or can we put this to rest?

it's not supposed to make me feel bad that a candidate that i see as being credible and worthy of the presidency is constantly being accused of the craziest sht ever.

i guess you all will have to look at this in hindsight when your grandchildren question you (should obama become president) why americans were so reluctant in voting for him. trust me it will sound ridiculous later that obama is being faulted for the words his minister made-NOT THE WORDS HE MADE-while he wasn't present in church-a church he hadn't attended in years. that his patriotism is being questioned because of it. YET sarah palin belonged to, or her husband belonged the alaska independence party. no one even questioned it. i know i didn't cause who cares? yet, people made a direct link to his minister's words to obama's thoughts-NOT HIS ACTIONS-because you'd find no fault there.
