!@# Sacto Geek Meat !@#

Recommended Posts

Our resident asian (Strike) is coming to Sacto around the 27th of January.

TNG, Yer Mom, Naomi, etc. are all welcome to attend this wonderful get together.

We will start with Latte's at the local coffe house where we can talk about books, poetry, whatever.

We will then go see the wounderful sights that Sacramento has to offer.

These will include, but not limited to: Local antique stores, Flower shops, Botiques, shopping at Nordstroms and such.

As the evening comes upon us, we will feast on tofu burgers and Soy Milk.

We will top off the evening with a nightcap of WallMarts finest Merlot while soaking up the night air in my hot tub.

I'm covering my old favorite account in the Sac area this year, so I may have an occasion to visit later in the year. I'll let you know.

See...Here is the problem.

Strike mebbe actually wants to meet girls on his trip here.

I don't think that I can provide him with that.

You, (naomi) can help me out by meeting us at rstraunt that is in your area.

The food bill will be on Strike (or his expense account..Like you or I care) and not only do you get to meat a miserable piece of sh1t (strike), but you get to meat a 41 year old that you could actually have a normal conversation with...(I don't know where he is, but I'll attempt to find him for you)

Freudian?

Might be crazy enough to do that. There's some good restaurant in the state Capitol area. After we eat, Strike can walk over and give the governator a piece of his mind.

Stike, just watched the whole speech. What mostly made you think it was horrible?

I actually didn't hear the whole thing, just snippets, but I just went to his website and watched the whole thing. Here are some comments as I watch it:

1) Right off the bat he flat out lied. He said the GOP "left the table". That is a flat out lie. They never left the table. They are more than willing to negotiate. They actually have submitted to the legislature proposed balanced budget that the dems promised to discuss. It's a reasonable solution to the current problems facing the state of CA. Then, before that could happen, the Dems came up with their unconstitutional tax hikes they're trying to pass and pushed the GOP aside.

2) He wants to increase sales tax by 1.5%!!! I don't know what the current rate is where you live but in Los Angeles it's currently 8.25% (I think it actually went up in the last election so it may be higher), so that would put it right around 10% in LA. That's sick. Plus, he wants to start taxing services such as going to your CPA that currently aren't taxed. While he may back the sales tax down since he's saying that is temporary (I don't believe him), the tax on services is something that will be permanent.

3) He talks about making government more efficient. He goes on to note that he promised to do that AS SOON AS HE TOOK OFFICE. He was going to audit every dept. and get rid of any waste that existed. Well, he never did it. He goes on to say that it didn't make sense to do it when the economy was doing well. WTF planet does he live on? The BEST time to make changes to the structure of an organization is when things are going well. That's just an idiotic statement to deflect the inevitable criticism of someone like myself well versed on these issues who KNOWS he didn't do what he promised when we elected him. In the very NEXT sentence he says it's ALWAYS a good time to make things more efficient. How can it not be a good time and always be a good time? Specifically he mentions getting rid of some of the boards. If you don't know what he's talking about you should look up these "boards". Basically, they're a bunch of people who don't do much but get paid 100k plus a year from the state to "sit" on a board about something stupid and meet once or twice a year. Often times these appointments are used as political payback/favors. (Note - some of the boards probably do serve a purpose). A lot of termed out state legislators end up on these boards. Awnuld appointed a newly termed out state legislator to one of them just a couple days ago I heard. So this is ridiculous because if he had done it when he promised to do it we would already be reaping the savings.

4) He says it's time for dems and rebubs to put politics aside. That's just a joke. Do you think it's politically expedient for the GOP to hold up a budget for political reasons in this economy? No. They're actually sticking to their principles for once. They know that, as I've said repeatedly, the state of CA has 40 billion dollars in additional revenue just compared to a few years ago. It may be a bit less than that due to the economy but that's the latest number I've heard. It's about a 40% increase over what the budget was before that. I don't know about you but I could live with a 40% raise over a 4-5 year period. So the Repubs are saying "WAIT! Let's deal with the real problem which is a spending problem." California is already one of the highest taxed states in the nation. You can't simply keep increasing revenue, especially when it's not there. The GOP wants to try to fix the problem in the LONG TERM. But the dems and Awnuld don't want to talk about their loose purse strings. There's a reason Awnuld is basically shunned by the Republican party in CA. He's not one of them. For all intents and purposes he's a Democrat at this point.

5) I'm sorry but every time he says 4 legged stool all I can think about is my cat's poop. He could have used a better analogy there.

6) Someone mentions to him in the Q&A portion that he has a bad relationship with the Republicans and he says he thinks he has as good one. Another flat out lie. A couple months ago when they met with Awnuld, the Republicans wore name tags because it had been so long since they had met with him. It was a joke but a very telling one.

7) He basically acknowledges, as he has numerous times in the last week and half since the Dems tried to pass a set of illegal tax hikes, that he would sign it if they put in appropriate economic stimulus provisions. At one of his press conferences he slipped and acknowledged that the tax hikes would be illegal. Yet he says he'll sign it. If a bill such as that gets pushed through it will be legally challenged. Actually, in anticipation of the bill being signed the Howard Jarvis tax association has already filed suit to prevent it from being enacted. They're almost sure to prevail in court. In this economic crisis, does California really need to waste who knows how much taxpayer money to defend a lawsuit they are almost guaranteed to lose? It makes no sense.

8) Every specific he mentions, and here are a couple I noted, that he says BOTH the dems and repubs would not negotiate on, were issues with the democratic party:

- Union negotiations/abuses.

- Wanting to relax regulations to build things quicker instead of it getting caught up in a bunch of red tape.

To summarize succinctly, He's full of sh!t. You can't believe a word coming out of his mouth, he doesn't do his job, and he's trying to pin the blame on both parties.

I know it sounds like I'm a GOP ass sniffer in this post. I'm not. I don't affiliate with either party. However, in the case of CA it is the Dems and their socialist policies that are killing the state. You're lucky the GOP has the slightest enough number of votes to prevent the Dems from passing any budget they want. If not you'd see tax increases like never before. Didn't I warn you about exactly this scenario repeatedly over the last couple of years?

Then, before that could happen, the Dems came up with their unconstitutional tax hikes they're trying to pass and pushed the GOP aside.

Yeah that took me aback a little. I haven't been closely following what's going on since summer...but at that time there was open circumvention of hearing out the republicans' proposal. So when that line comes out about them not being at the table...something Karen Bass herself has mentioned before, it is pretty low. It was humorous how avoidant the dems were on the floor, but then depressing when you think this is the government representing 36 million people. Do know that one of the key budget committee members who happens to be a Repub is certainly at the table still...if they'll have him. Ironic thing is a lot of Californians would connect to his reasoning on things. Also, I assume a fair number of his colleagues if they still have the spirit they had this summer are there too.

2) He wants to increase sales tax by 1.5%!!! I don't know what the current rate is where you live but in Los Angeles it's currently 8.25% (I think it actually went up in the last election so it may be higher), so that would put it right around 10% in LA. While he may back the sales tax down since he's saying that is temporary (I don't believe him), the tax on services is something that will be permanent.

It's 7.75% here. I'm not that savvy when it comes to understanding the ramifications of what's taxed and how, but that impression is basically lent...not all of that is truly just temporary solutions.

There's a reason Awnuld is basically shunned by the Republican party in CA. He's not one of them. For all intents and purposes he's a Democrat at this point.

Yeah...definitely not at all. They know they look bad if you consider the spin that's put out there on why they have their position, but they feel like they've given in before enabling the situation to just get worse, so they have to stick it out now. Personally surprised they have for so long.

Lol, didn't know about the name tag thing. We need more repubs that stick strongly to their principles. If there was even more contrast, that might detract from some of the spin, but from my impression there's only a handful of them that manage to make waves because they're actually sticking to their principles, and they carry the rest that act sheepish, or worse just seem to be there for the ride. Too many seem like that.

7) He basically acknowledges, as he has numerous times in the last week and half since the Dems tried to pass a set of illegal tax hikes, that he would sign it if they put in appropriate economic stimulus provisions. On circumventing the 2/3 requirement:

"I still believe in bipartisanship," Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg (D-Sacramento) said at a Capitol news conference. "But there is an even greater responsibility than practicing bipartisanship, and that is to govern. And that is what we intend to do here today."

Maybe if they got their complete green light and screwed things up a lot more people would understand how :headbanger: they've been and then effectual pressure would be put on.

Actually it's possible things may get better. In the last election California passed a redistricting reform law. California has been gerrymandered into districts that make it almost an absolute lock for the incumbent party to win. You should look up the boundary districts throughout California. They're don't make any sense. The new law should make the district races more competitive which may make the legislature more beholding to the populace instead of just doing whatever they feel like. I just don't know when the next redistricting will take place.

Yeah I'm familiar with the crazy district lines, and we had this discussion before. You also think there's a good chance that it was finally passed too late. Don't think any redistricting will take place until after the 2010 census. Did appreciate your take on Arnold's speech...this is stuff I should be keeping up with.
