Bill E. 703 Posted August 15, 2009 As an animal lover I will never want to see Vick succeed. I do not care that he paid his debts I just know he would still be fighting and killing dogs today if he did not get caught. Don't get me wrong, he deserves another chance, but I will always hope he fails. As a die-hard Steelers I am glad that he did not end up in PIT. They were one of the teams being talked about. If Ben goes down I would rather see PIT lose the next 10 Superbowls than win them with Vick.
49ers_suck 0 Posted August 15, 2009 And if he doesn't work out, or if some other team shows need and require his services, he could always go else where: It's all on Vick's shoulders now. Jeff Lurie, the owner of the team, was very up front with the media when he spoke about the situation: Owner Jeffrey Lurie, an acknowledged dog lover, had some harsh comments for Vick’s actions, calling them horrific and not meeting the basic standards of human decency. Lurie made a 14-minute opening statement, detailing his feelings. "His legend, he will be successful if he can diminish the level of animal cruelty and that's it," Lurie said. "If he is not proactive, he will not be on the team, because that is part of the agreement." Lurie also tried to look forward. He described a lot of soul searching and a long meeting with he and Vick. Lurie said it was the first he had been so involved in the process of signing a player. “My hope as we go forward is Michael will prove his value in society,” Lurie said. “Whether he becomes a good football player again, it’s possible. He’s got an opportunity to become a good member of society. That’s the goal here.” big deal. what do expect him to say? when the Cowboys signed pacman there was much bad press. so get used to it. the eagles signed a thug. this is going to be a media circus all year. MDC 7,656 Posted August 15, 2009 ....and vick will be such a distraction to the eagles, especially when he takes over at QB, because mcpuke blows out his knee, that the eagles finish last in the NFC East. Let's look at a very brief, abbreviated history of the Dallas Cowboys criminal record: 1970 - Lance Rentzel arrested for exposing himself to a 10-year-old girl 1978 - Bob Hayes arrested for cocaine and convicted of being a drug dealer 1983 - "Hollywood" Henderson arrested for smoking crack with two teen girls and molesting them at gunpoint 1987 - Cowboys kicker Rafael Septien is arrested for having sex with a 10 year old girl. 1987 - Larry Bethea becomes one of two Cowboys arrested for stealing from his own mother! 1996 - Harvey Martin arrested for cocaine use and domestic violence 1996 - Michael Irvin arrested for snorting coke off a stripper's @ss. 1998 - Dexter Clinkdale arrested for having sex with a minor (boy) 2001 - Nate Newton arrested with 200 pounds of marijuana. Five weeks later he's busted transporting another 175 pounds. 2003 - Dwayne Goodrich kills two people and is arrested for vehicular homicide 2008 - Cowboys sign Pacman Jones, who'd been arrested for assault, felony vandalism, marijuana, failure to contact his probation officer, making terroristic threats, and beating strippers on two separate occasions. I'm not saying Vick is a good guy. Personally, I think the sentence he received was pretty lenient for backrolling an operation that resulted in the abuse and murder of probably hundreds of dogs. But, of all the fans of all the teams in football, when it comes to blasting the Eagles for this move the Cowboys just have no leg to stand on.Yeah, they signed a guy who did a very bad thing, lost millions and two years of his life in the process, and has now served his time and wants to move on. But compare that to the list of drug dealers, wife beaters and child molesters the Cowboys have signed over the years and I think Vick sounds like a pretty safe, low-risk investment. At least, unlike so many Cowboys, he's not a baby-feeler. My two cents.

Not saying that "49ers suck" is right on this one but I expect he is just exacting a little payback for all the ribbing the Cowboys have gotten over signing problem players. If the Cowboys had signed Vick there would be a 14-page Cowboy hate thread on here chock-full of nonsense. Having said that, I like the signing by the Eagles.I think Vick might still be a solid player and I am very happy that a team gave him a second chance. What he did was terrible but everybody deserves that second chance and the Eagles and Tony Dungy should be aplauded for giving him that chance . BTW.... very long a terrible list but I would wager that all teams have had plenty of bad apples like this, not just a Cowboy thing.

Hey, I understand he's just giving us chit and if the Cowboys signed Vick there'd be page after page of threads trashing him. But I think the Cowboys incredibly long rap sheet is pretty unusual, even for the NFL. And I don't think every other team has a player who molests, steals, or gets caught dealing coke every 3-5 years. The Cowboys have a long history of having low character players on their team. As an Eagle fan I'm really lukewarm on Vick. At best, the Eagles have a guy who can give them about 5 quality snaps per game in a Wildcat offense. Is that really worth dealing with the negative attention? Probably not but I'm a fan, so I'm prepared to be proven wrong.

busta30 0 Posted August 16, 2009 I seriously doubt it. Listening to ESPN and FoxSports lately everyone is rooting for him to turn it around. I agree with you. I think he has gone through so much that the players almost have remorse for him and not the action any more. Sure if he only served 3 weeks in jail it might be different. But from what I have read and seen the players are pulling for him. Now don't get me wrong, I think his actions were terrible. But the league has forgotten about that now, and moved on to the player. I mean Goddell said it himself, that he hopes Vick is an example of a player that can turn this around. So he goes from the bad boy poster child image on the NFL, to the complete 180 charity case. GhostofMeanMachine99 1 Posted August 16, 2009 Lets see if the media circus trashes Philly this year like they did Dallas when they had T.O. and Pacman The media trashed the Cowboys last year because of all the bravado and chest thumping on that Hard Knocks show. It also kinda helped that TO underperformed (to go along with the rest of the team), Pacman Jones was terrible, and finally, a team and city all thought the SB was automatic. A big mouthed owner, a pretty boy QB, and an over the hill WR couldn't get it done. Also would like to mention that when they had to beat Philly at the end of the season, THEY GOT SMOKED ON NATIONAL TV. Call me crazy, but I think the Cowboys brought it on themselves last year. His mouth was more trouble than his 35 year old body was worth. the point is this.......... Vick is worse than Pacman. Vick is worse than Tank. If the media does not harp on the Vick situation then is is due to Philly not being a media favorite or getting high ratings for networks when they talk about the eagles. That Vick served his time, and didn't buy his way out of jail time like Pacman. I guess it's okay to root for Pacman when the stray bullet from his incident paralyzed an innocent bystander? Or Tank Johnson, carrying around weapons, or being in places where a dude was murdered? All I know is before last season. most Cowboy fans were spouting off, talking about how great Romo is, and how TO was telling people "get your popcorn", and how on Hard Knocks, Jerry Jones thought every player on the roster was pro bowl caliber. There is no guarantee that Vick even makes the squad. What I do know is they brought a guy in, an offensive weapon, they can try and utilize in some exotic sets, include around the goal line, where the Eagles have difficulty scoring TD's. And don't you worry, Tank and Pacman will wind up being cell mates one day with Rae Carruth.
GhostofMeanMachine99 1 Posted August 16, 2009 keep trying to deflect that your team just signed a thug POS!!! Who's deflecting, genius? I'm not happy about it, but I accept it. If he keeps his nose clean, plays his part in the local community, and provides some value to the team on the field, that's great. If he doesn't, he's gone. I'm not the PR director, so why would I give a fock what their reputation is? For Eagle fans right now, injuries and inconsistency on the offensive line are the big worries. Not Michael Vick. Most of those are not felons. This is a fairness issue. How can the nfl and society tell people to obey rules to get ahead and then support vick making as you say 750k?
