Anyone recommend newer SciFi/Fantasy books out there

Recommended Posts

Finished A Hymera Before Battle a few weeks ago. Went ahead and ordered the rest of the series. The book was good and I recommend checking it out. Very interested to see where the series takes the relationship ship with the Dahryl.

Whassup, shithead?

Not that you would ever go (cause you're a princess and stuff), but there is an incredible band playing tomorrow night at the place where we first made out. (Jans)

Groups name is Four Barrel

Obviously i missed this post. Not sure I'd want to make out with you again if you're going to call me a shithead.

The third and final book in The Passage series by Justin Cronin is coming out in 10 days. It's called The City of Mirrors. I absolutely loved the first two and, since it's been a couple of years since I read them, I just started reading them over today. I can't recommend it highly enough.

If you liked Ringo... you'll like Monster Hunters International as well.  Great series.

I started reading fantasy when I was 8. Have read it for 30 years now. I've pretty much abandoned it. The damn series take decades to come out now. I have literally a dozen series that I'm waiting for the next book on, multi year waits in most cases. It's too much of a focking hassle.

Im sure you have read Feist and Eddings yes?

Classics of the genre. I like the empire series best of feist. The belgarion and the elenium are pretty much identical stories by Eddings.

Have you ever read the dragon prince/dragon star trilogies by Melanie rawn? My favorite fantasy of all time. I've read them a dozen times. I could sit down and write all six volumes down from memory and make a pretty close facsimile.

And the black company series is great. Violent stuff. Mercenary company and whatnot.

Aside from his weirdo Dyanetics book which lead to scientology.... L Ron Hubbard was a pretty good scifi writer.

Really good book, but absolutely horrible trash movie was "Battlefield Earth".  Check it out... I really enjoyed it.  It's a pretty long book.

He also does a 10 book series called "Mission Earth".  It's pretty funny and entertaining... again a decadon of big long books...

Both the "Battlefield Earth" and "Mission Earth" series are well worth the reads.

It was the summer of 1987, I was just out of 6th grade, going into 7th and I was at a summer camp thing at a college.  Bored one Saturday I went to the college library and picked up a book with a weird cover.  "A Spell for Chameleon" - by Piers Anthony, the first book in the Xanth series and the very first fantasy book I ever read.  I was absolutely hooked.  It blew me away as I had never read anything with as much imagination and imagery.  Loved it... read a lot of Piers Anthony's stuff to include the ones you mentioned and more.

I had gotten into reading a year or two before as I had on a whim picked up my Pop's Louis L'Amour western books and inhaled a couple dozen of them.  The Sacketts...

I've read Asimov.. but as sacrilegious as it sounds... meh.. to technically detailed.  Also.. Tolkien... boooring.

I did enjoy Tad Williams, Terry Goodkind, Prittchards stuff....

Yeah, Dragonlance was my first fantasy series. Dragons of autumn twilight. Eddings was second. My school library had them.

Ive read Abercrombie too. Good stuff.
