I agree, Andy. Maybe this is a sell high scenario to get max value....or they think he is a piece of shiit and want rid themselves of his services instead of paying him 50 million.

Haha funny. I am thinking the second option.

BOSTON (AP) Andrew Miller has been acquired by the Boston Red Sox from the Florida Marlins for Dustin Richardson in a trade of left-handed pitchers.

The 25-year-old Miller, taken by Detroit with the sixth overall pick in the 2006 amateur draft, was 1-5 with an 8.54 ERA in seven starts and two relief appearances for Florida over the final 1 1/2 months of the season. He was a combined 2-9 with a 5.35 ERA at Double-A Jacksonville and Class A Jupiter.

He was part of the Miggy Cabrera trade, correct?

along with this guy

They both ended up in much better positions. Miller will end up being a starter in beantown and maybin should excel in the wide open space of petco.

Padres acquired outfielder Cameron Maybin from the Marlins for RHP Ryan Webb and RHP Edward Mujica.

OK, so perhaps we shouldn't treat it as a given that just because the Padres seem to come up with a couple of new quality relievers every year that Webb and Mujica will be easy to replace. There's still no way they could turn this trade down. Maybin makes the minimum, and he's an upgrade from Tony Gwynn Jr. in center field even if he doesn't start fulfilling the lofty expectations placed on him a few years back. The one-time Tigers prospect doesn't turn 24 until April, and he's hit .325/.401/.477 in 428 Triple-A at-bats. The Padres should stick him in center field every day, let him bat seventh and see what happens

Wow. How the mighty have fallen. Maybin was touted as a "can't miss prospect".

I will be drafting him this year late. He should be fine in that park. He is not a hr hitter but he is fast can hit the gaps and will play a great CF. Plus he is still young. I think both will be fine. Miller just needs to quit walking people for christs sake.

You think he'll be a starting CF? I see him more as a fourth OF coming off the bench.

oh I think they will put his speed to use in CF. The kid can cover ground. They will give him every shot at the starting job in spring training.

Unless maybin can play on 2 teams at once I think Jackson is preeeeeeettty safe.....and even then jackson is far and away better than maybin at this point.

He was a former tigers prospect that was traded in the Miggy deal and is now with the Padres.

So what you are saying is, Cameron Maybin does NOT play for the Detroit Tigers? :D

Someone allllllways wants to give the D train a shot........no matter howwwwww bad he is.

Reds signed LHP Dontrelle Willis to a minor league contract and are expected to use him as a reliever.

This is by no means an indication that LHP Arthur Rhodes is prepared to turn down his arbitration offer and elect free agency; the Reds are simply taking a flyer on the former phenom. Willis has a lot of work to do in the offseason if he expects to be on the team's opening day 25-man roster. The D-Train will likely be stationed at Triple-A Louisville and serve as an emergency minor league arm as he attempts to resurrect his career.

According to Ignacio Serrano of ESPN Deportes, the Tigers are close to a four-year, $50 million contract with catcher Victor Martinez.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com has now confirmed the report. Martinez is likely to serve as the Tigers' starting designated hitter in 2011 and only as a backup behind the plate. He batted .302/.351/.493 with 20 home runs and 79 RBI in 127 games this past year for Boston and will significantly improve the Tigers' offensive production. He should have no problem staying healthy and playing 150-plus games as a DH, which is great news for fantasy owners.

New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Tuesday that the Yankees have made a "fair and appropriate" contract offer to Derek Jeter and suggested that if the 36-year-old shortstop thinks otherwise, he should shop himself around to find out.

"We understand his contributions to the franchise and our offer has taken them into account," Cashman told ESPNNewYork.com. "We've encouraged him to test the market and see if there's something he would prefer other than this. If he can, fine. That's the way it works."

Fighin words from the NY GM.

Jeter wouldn't get over $7 million anywhere else. GM is calling his bluff for sure.

The only card in Jeter's hand is the "I'm the face of the franchise and the fans love meeeeeee" card. not enough to get 4/$70mil

An industry source told Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports on Monday that the Yankees have offered Cliff Lee a six-year deal worth around $140 million.

The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo had the offer at five years and $115-$120 million a few days ago. Lee, 32, posted a 3.18 ERA and 1.00 WHIP over 28 starts in 2010, fanning 185 batters while walking only 18. The Rangers are expected to match the Yankees' offers, at least initially, and the Nationals are likely to stay aggressive throughout the negotiations. Most media members suspect that Lee will wind up in New York, but it's certainly not a sure thing

idk...when it get up to 100+ million, don't you get to a point where you just go to the team you want to go to instead of the team that's willing to offer you $10 million more?

I would have to say so. But you have to take into account the fact that the yanks win. Thats what they do and if you want the chance to win the WS the bombers give you a better chance to win/play in more WS over the course of the contract than any of the teams.

According to Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle, the Mets are willing to deal Jose Reyes but want "3-4" players in return.

In other words, Reyes is probably not going to be moved this winter. He posted a decent .282/.321/.428 batting line with 11 homers, 54 RBI and 30 steals over 133 games in 2010 and is under contract for $11 million in 2011. If things go rough for the Mets in the first half next year, they might shop him at the July trade deadline. But he should be in a Mets uniform on Opening Day

Yea, Mets are asking for the whole farm for Reyes.

I would be totally up for it if the Mets were asking for a few B prospects, but it seems like they would be asking for the #1 prospect in your farm and more for Reyes...I doubt any teams will bite. The issue is there are no SS on the market any good. I mean shoot...Uribe is the #1 Free Agent SS.

After taxes that extra 10 million is only like 6.5 million. The guy has a family to feed, y'know.

Mariano Rivera resigns with the Yankees with a two-year, $30 million deal. Apparently the Red Sox offered the same money and years. Looks like Jonathan Papelbon's days are numbered.

Greinke is probably one of the only players in mlb that has the yanks on his no trade list.

The Toronto Sun's Bob Elliot believes the Blue Jays are making a push to acquire Zack Greinke from the Royals.

Elliot believes the Jays could land Greinke if they're willing to part with Kyle Drabek, Travis Snider and a minor leaguer or two. That doesn't sound far off to us. Drabek could slot right into the Royals' rotation, and Snider still projects as a 30-homer-per-year left fielder.

This would be a bad move by the Blue Jays. I follow the Jays (a little) because their AA team is nearby. Drabek and Snider are two very good players. Greinke is good but he also has a history of social anxiety disorder. Pitching in the AL East against the Yankees, Red Sox, and Tampa Bay line ups night after night, is enough to drive anyone to madness.

The Texas Rangers are expected to make a play for Greinke if Cliff Lee signs in New York, but Ken Rosenthal wrote Friday night that the defending American league champs would like to sign Lee and make a trade for Greinke, pairing the two at the top of their rotation to make another run at the World Series.

The obstacles to such a deal include Greinke's no-trade clause, which is not believed to include the Rangers, and, of course, the Yankees' pursuit of Lee and all the money it would cost to land Lee long term and keep Greinke around beyond 2012, not to mention the haul the Royals will demand in return for the right-hander.

The Red Sox will have a deal in place. No way Theo fvcks this up.

Here is an interesting rumor I just read:

One rumor shared with the Kansas City Star's Bob Dutton has the Royals netting outfielder Ryan Braun in a deal with Milwaukee. The slugger is signed for five more seasons at a total of $40.5 million. The Brewers need pitching sorely.
