tikigods 76 Posted December 5, 2010 Greinke even up? Apparently. I'd like to see the Red Sox get in on the Greinke talks.
tikigods 76 Posted December 5, 2010 Oh boy....I spoke too soon: SI.com's Jon Heyman reports that the Red Sox and Adrian Gonzalez could not agree to a contract extension and the deal has fallen through. Boston reportedly couldn't come to an agreement with Gonzalez on a contract extension by Sunday afternoon's deadline. Heyman reported that Gonzalez asked for an eight-year extension while Boston didn't want to go beyond six. Earlier reports said the Red Sox might go through with the trade without an extension, but Heyman believes the trade has fallen through. Boston and San Diego agreed to a trade on Thursday that sent Gonzalez to the Red Sox and prospects Casey Kelly, Anthony Rizzo, Reymond Fuentes and a PTBNL to the Padres. The Padres said Thursday that they wouldn't field more offers for Gonzalez if this trade fell through. Meanwhile, FoxSports.com's Ken Rosenthal tweeted that the deal with Boston is "is far from over." Stay tuned.
kilroy69 1,268 Posted December 5, 2010 I find this kinda odd. He signed a contract with a pretty big hometown discount and now is ok with moving to any team? If thats the case why not sign with the yanks and make the big cash? Zack Greinke has told the Royals that he will accept a trade to any team, according to FoxSports.com's Ken Rosenthal. The Blue Jays are on Greinke's no-trade list -- which contains 15 teams -- but Greinke will apparently waive his right of refusal if Kansas City wants to trade him. Toronto contacted Kansas City about Greinke and the Royals are interested, reports Rosenthal. The Jays could potentially land Greinke if they're willing to part with Kyle Drabek, Travis Snider and a minor leaguer or two. Greinke is under contract for two more years at $13.5 million per season. The 27-year-old has a 3.82 career ERA and 1.26 WHIP.

Big Blue 06 196 Posted December 5, 2010 He has now become Jayson Werth-less. Wow. You've had a good run with the Phillies, a perrenial winner and World Series contender. Now enjoy baseball hell. And I don't care where Adrian Gonzalez ends up, I just want him anywhere but Boston at this point. I'll consider that a win.

People are overlooking the Tigers, they have A LOT of money to spend, a legendary manager, a great owner that throws money around like confetti, and a fantastic young core. I am guessing since the Yanks are full-bore after Lee and with the whole Jeter nonsense, they won't be going after Carl as hard as other teams.

tikigods 76 Posted December 6, 2010 I'm glad the Red Sox didn't aggressively go after Werth. 7 years is a long time to have a guy locked up for. If he was a little younger, I might feel differently but Werth is too old for this long of a contract. 27 is peak year for most hitters. Werth is 31.

While the Yankees got absolutely nothing on their investment, at least they only gave him $10 million a year, and only for 4 years. Some of these brutal contracts are 6 or 7 years for about 17-20 per. Good God!

Also Belles contract while on the surface looked bad was really not as the insurance company picked up a large portion of it. Hampton and Zito were the worst IMHO. Zito is still playing but is not even close to being able to justify his contract and Hampton broke down very quickly and was never able to come back fully. Pretty much every player on that list, except Wells and Zito, were injured eventually during their contract or just didn't play for their team at all, no reason NOT to say it was a complete waste on money. The thing with Zito is, even if he turned into a 5th in the rotation pitcher, he has been healthy all 4 season in SF and next season he'll be a pretty serviceable 5th starter. Clearly the Yankees are going to outbid everyone on the market, so it's up to Lee on where he want to play and how badly he wants to play there. The Yankees have a meeting set for today with Lee and his agent and are expected to make an offer in the range of 7 years, $140 million (or so the rumor goes). Good Lord, that's a lot of cheese. Its got to come down to being a hired gun type among other hired guns and the possibility of winning every single year with the yanks or Helping shape a good team with a fantastic owner/president and a staff for years to come with the rangers while putting his mark on a team. Its hard but I would want to go to the rangers at this point if the money was right or close to right on both sides.

I'd prolly kill over and die.......... As great as it would be, I'm afraid it would hand tie the club in getting anybody else. We still need to resign Hamilton - and that won't be cheap. Also still need to sign a DH, Vlad wants to come back but at what price? Then there is a huge hole and need at catcher......... At this point, I'd say Greinke is more likely than Lee. If they Yanks are offering any kind of deal at 6 years or beyond, he is gone.

kilroy69 1,268 Posted December 7, 2010 According to Tony Jackson of ESPN Los Angeles, the Dodgers and Brewers are discussing a trade that would send Prince Fielder to LA and James Loney and Jonathan Broxton to Milwaukee. Sounds like a really good deal for the Dodgers, who would get an established slugger that's only 26 in exchange for a first baseman with no power and a closer that lost his job this past season. We do think Broxton has a good shot to returning to elite closer status, but it would still be a great get for the Dodgers, who are looking to add more thunder to their lineup. Yahoo's Steve Henson reports that the Dodgers have "zero" interest in Fielder, so we'll see if this has legs.

kilroy69 1,268 Posted December 7, 2010 According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, the Yankees have grown frustrated at the slow pace of negotiations regarding lefty Cliff Lee. The Yankees plan to sit tight until Lee and his agent are ready to get serious about numbers. They've expressed a desire to keep the contract length under six years, but that could always change if a darkhorse team -- or the Rangers, for that matter -- offer seven. Lee, 32, registered a sparkling 3.18 ERA and 1.00 WHIP this past year while striking out 185 batters and issuing only 18 walks. He is thought to be seeking $25 million annually. That would be good for both of them. No got dang way lee goes to The nats. They are living a pipe dream if they think they can make any kind of offer less than him being the first 30 mil man to go there. Just because they overpaid for werth doesn't mean people want to play for the nats. I applaud their effort but if its not about the money so much(if it were he would have already signed with the yanks) then its about the potential of the team around you to win. And the nats just dont have it and may not have it for half or more of any contract he signs.
