All that I implied was that the stock market started taking some sharp drops from the day that Barry was named the Dems choice and afterwards.

I never said anything about the economy,(I think) but purely the DJIA.

My whole point was / still is that the stock market is a speculation about the future, and when Barry got the nod, he laid out his plan very simply. Tax tax tax. Socialized health care, the rich suck, etc...

The investors (buyers)got scared of an uncertain future and backed away from the market (as they should have) until Barrys plans were more clear to them.

October 2008 is when it started, and yes, I am saying that it was mainly due to the speculation of Obummers upcomming presidency.

Count me as flabbergasted at SUX's Obama/stock market correlation. While I'll admit speculation about his presidential policies may have played a small role in the market's decline, I cannot fathom how you can think that his nomination/election was the MAIN reason the market tanked given the economic environment at the time - housing/banking collapse/TARP.

 

Unless you think his presidential policies have changed, why has the market rebounded? Have businesses been speculating a conservative is coming to save the day?

 

Take the extremes to figure it out.... If taxes were moved up to 100% would it be stimulative? If taxes were moves to 0% would it be stimulative? I think you'll find your answer.

Cripes, we've been through this before: there is a relationship between tax rate and revenue, at least as measured by tax proceeds. At the extremes we'll have no funds to pay for the services government provides, but nobody knows the exact sweet spot on the Laffer curve where revenue is maximized. Stated another way, not every rise in taxation will promote decreased productivity nor every drop be stimulative. I guess this assumes you believe the government provides meaningful services which the free market will or can not provide. Maybe you mean something else by "stimulative"?

The market has rebounded because now the investors know for a fact what his policys are and how he impliments them, so they have adjusted their investing strategies accordingly.
