With Matt Leinart (collarbone) officially gone, the Houston Texans need another quarterback. Head Coach Gary Kubiak admitted as much Monday and didn't shut the door on the possibility that (currently) retired Brett Favre, 42, could be a possibility. "I don't think you rule out anybody. I know there's, like I said, a lot of names being mentioned. We've got to continue to work through the process. I'm not going to rule out anybody, nor confirm anybody," Kubiak said when asked about Favre. Among the names the coach did mention were aging veteran Jeff Garcia and Chiefs castoff Brodie Croyle. They need to sign some guys because they have no other healthy QB's on the roster. He will be the starter going forward unless he totally focks up for a few weeks straight. I've seen both Trent Dilfer and Mike Lombardi say they think Yates has talent and he will be better for the team than having "Captain check down" Leinart in there. All the first round QBs (Cam, Gabbert, and Ponder) are on teams with terrible records. This guy is a 5th round pick asked to lead a team that is currently at the top of the afc south. Different situation. If the Texans were 3-8, I am sure they will roll him out and see what he can do. But when your at the top of the AFC, different story. Yeah, it's tough to expect the kid to go in there and succeed. he's probably a good year away from having that ability. As far as I'm concerned, 2/3 of the first rounders werent ready when they were inserted to start. You gotta have someone else who can go in or at least who can calm the kid down on the sidelines. I know Farve looks like a good option as he played fairly recently, but he wont mentor the kid at all. Garcia would actually be a better option. WR Guru 31 Posted November 29, 2011 I only saw the first couple of series with Yates in the game, but he looked pretty good. Crisp and decisive on his throws. Impressive for a guy who had gotten no first-team reps yet. And that was against a very solid Jaguars defense. It will be interesting to see what he does in an entire game with a full week of practice as the starter under his belt.
