Quickolas1 80 Posted August 27, 2013 fondest memory: Ed McCaffrey (Broncos)- last hope and player to go in weekly matchup - caught a real late 70+ yd TD just barely winning me a regular season game vs my rival at the time.He had Edge (rookie year) and a stacked team.I had M.Faulk and picked up some guy named Kurt Warner after Vinny Testaverde (Jets) died on me week 1.That reg. season win later gave me the # 1 playoff seeding over him. worst memory: He beat me in the championship when Warner & Faulk played one series The championship game was moved to week 16 after that (and have never played in a week 17 final again). I think it was 2000... although I started playing in maybe '94.
DankNuggs 305 Posted August 27, 2013 All of you who claim to have played FF before the internet was a thing are lying. I have Cliff Charpentiers FF digest from 1991-the early 00's...I had a spreadsheet program on the macintosh classic, it was how i initially learned excel. You'd get the Monday papers with the box scores and enter in who got TD's and how many yds...Also need the tues paper to finish off the week. My bro and I did a 16 team league, we each owned half the teams, TD only.

DankNuggs 305 Posted August 27, 2013 Cliff Charpentier's mag was great. Forgot all about it It wasn't a mag back in the day, it was a paperback book. Inch or two thick... I need to ask my parents where they stored all that old stuff. I want to keep them preserved for nostaligia sake... SAying that i bet they threw them out... smashmouths@blf 33 Posted August 27, 2013 Highlights of my first team - drafted in 1995 Troy Aikman - took him first overall. Learned that winning football games didn't translate over to good fantasy numbers. Rodney Hampton - Probably my most productive running back that year. Michael Irvin - I hate the Cowboys and took 2 of them. Chris Warren - On the downside of his career but was serviceable #2RB.
Cuse9 129 Posted August 27, 2013 My first ever draft pick was Steve Young. I believe it was 1995? Maybe 96? We started 9 players, so round nine I naturally selected my ninth starter....John Kasay. They all laughed at me....if only I would have known!! Definitely remember the days of buying USA Today to do scoring. Monday paper had the Sunday day games. Tuesday paper had the Sunday night late game and then Wednesday's paper had the Monday night game. Those days were great, you were so much more involved. Only the guys who really paid attention did good all the time. Now, any knucklehead can get online and check their league waiver wire to see who the best available is. Maroon Bells 18 Posted August 27, 2013 First year I ever played I had the last pick in a ten team league and took Emmit Smith and Barry Sanders back to back. A laugher of a year, I never lost. That was back in the early days of fantasy when most people didn't know what the hell they were doing and our commissioner tallied the points using the box scores in the morning paper. Same year some guy took Chip Lohmiller (a kicker for you youngsters) in the first round. There were writers who actually recommended such a move. Hey, kickers score more than any other position, right? :-)

Giants Fan 85 Posted August 27, 2013 I remember I used to believe that if you drafted Steve Young, you had a good chance of winning your league.
davidaja 3 Posted August 27, 2013 All of you who claim to have played FF before the internet was a thing are lying. Haha, the dynasty league I joined in '99 has been around since the USFL days. Took an act of Congress just to get some of these old-timers to transition to online participation a few years ago. And it's td's ONLY; some of them won't even hear of performance scoring. Maroon Bells 18 Posted August 27, 2013 Roto leagues have been around since the middle 80s...about 10 years before I ever had an email account or access to the mysterious internet. How does it work again? But I already have AOL and it only charges me pennies per minute! It's great as long as nobody calls while you're online. Why would I need the internet? Dan 66 Posted August 27, 2013 I never claimed to be pre-internet "thing." However, most of the guys in our league did not have home computers when I started playing. The internet existed, but it was not the main mode of communication et al that it is now. Our first four years were completely hard copy. After that, the 12th owner finally got online, and we were able to look around for an internet host.
