Trade offers that go ignored?

Recommended Posts

I'm not one of those annoying owners who constantly sends out ridiculous trades all day long. However, i do send out the occasional offer that is clearly fair for both owners. Seems like a lot of owners just simply ignore any and all trade offers in the league. In this day and age when everyone has a smart phone, most likely the offers are seen instantly.

Does anyone have this problem in their leagues? I would love to install some type of rule that all offers need to be addresed within 48 hours or you lose points.

I usually try to contact the owner and discuss trades before proposing them. It's nice when people actually use the trading block so you can gauge their interest and who they undervalue.

After discussing player interest, if we agree in principle, then I have them send the trade proposal so that I can accept immediately.

When I do send out trade proposals, I contact the owner (I play with friends, so it's not difficult) and let them know. If they do not accept after two days, I take down the offer because there is nothing worse than forgetting you had a trade up and one of the players you are receiving gets hurt. This hasn't happened to me in FF, but has multiple times in FB.

I don't have a problem with people responding to trade proposals, but you are correct that people see them almost instantly. At worse, they will see them on Tuesday night (before waiver claims are due), Thursday night (checking stats from TNF), or Sunday/MNF, depending on when you submit it. So there is never a reason for them to not respond within 2 days.

I have one on the board right now that another guy proposed, but as I deem it a ridiculous offer I'm ignoring it rather than bother responding. If it were worth responding to I would have minutes after it was proposed.....maybe the other owner doesn't view your trade offers as equitable for both teams.

FWIW, it's Pead and Amendola for P. Thomas and Nelson

It is very annoying. Just this week one owner sent me a proposal of Nicks for Jordy. I countered with Megatron for AP, my offer sat for 36 hours before I cancelled.

When I send offers I occasionally check if the other owner made any transactions while my offer was on the table. If they did I cancel my trade as they obviously saw it, but didn't have the courtesy to accept, deny or counter

I usually email the owner to guage his interest before randomly offering a trade. The main reason I do this is to see how he values the player. I don't want to throw out a great offer if his valuation of the player is much less than mine. I'm not looking to screw the other owner, but if he doesn't want the player as much as I do, I can offer him less in return. I've never had an issue with them replying to my emails, but have had trades just sit for days on end when I didn't email first.

I'm typically one to approach an owner and discuss a trade to work it out.

I don't really send out offers and hope they are accepted. I've found that typically deals don't get done that way for me.

If an owner simply sends me an offer, without letting me know or emailing to discus, I don't feel any urgency to reject the deal or let the owner know.

But if an owner took a step to start a discussion I would respond immediately.

You had me until this ridiculous statement.

Happens to me most of the time. Not sure if people are lazy, risk-averse generally, irrationally wedded to keeping their teams the way they are given where their would-be traded players were drafted, paranoid about being ripped off, or some combination of these. If you take the position (that I do) that every single player has a transactional price, then it's worth it for both sides to think about how to improve their teams with a deal. But some don't -- which is why there's a guy in my league starting Montee Ball at RB2 who's not about to part with a single WR.

Actually this adds a great dynamic.

A couple of years ago a guy just spammed out trades but never retracted them. So the guy he offered was playing well and my guy got hurt. So 5-6 weeks after the offer, I hit accept. He's like, "WTF is going on!!!" He realized what happened and said, "You got me, good one."

So it's a fun game to play.

The best way to work out a trade is through texts (if you're acquaintances in real life) or email. Failing that, there's really nothing you can do about it. Seems like most every league has at least one or two guys who will completely ignore 99% of offers for whatever reason
