Bowe Bergdahl, traitor or patsy?

Again...not being able to leave the country is a restriction.

So you think Qatar's borders are secure? No way they can just walk (or drive their SUVs) right out of the country?

Krauthammer nailed it on O'Reilly last night. He said he would absolutely have made the deal. Then you let military justice handle the case. He's a pretty smart guy.

I haven't been keeping up with this story, or any really, as I've just been to busy. But I did this morning catch up a bit. Damn those are some mean looking dudes in that mug shot lineup. Whomever said it looks like the lineup off a 24 show was spot on.

Decisions like this are why Presidents age 2x faster in office than the rest of us. It's one of the oldest hard decisions in the book; hell we see it in movies all the time. Do you save the one person at the expense of "possibly" putting other people at risk and giving the bad guys leverage?

There is no good answer. However whenever there is no good answer its probably wiser and more prudent to follow the letter of the law is my intial gut reaction. :dunno:

They will investigate him and come up with nothing. No way Obama let's the fact he is a deserter become official because it would confirm this deal was stupid.

The administration is out there saying he served with honor. That is how they will play it until they can make this go away.

Somebody on the news, can't remember who said it, said we have to release these guys once war operations are over. I thought they said by the end of 2014. I don't know if it's true or not, but the Geneva convention makes us release pow's. Maybe it's a run up to that.

White House backpedals after claiming Bergdahl 'served with honor and distinction'

Deputy national security advisor Tony Blinken struggled to cover for his boss Susan Rice on Tuesday, backtracking from her contention that Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl “served with honor and distinction” in the face of tough questions from NBC reporter Andrea Mitchell.

Mitchell confronted Blinken over Rice’s Sunday claim that Bergdahl “served with honor and distinction” — an assertion almost immediately disproven by scores of Bergdahl’s comrades and official Pentagon reports, which show the soldier abandoned his post and may have been seeking to join the Taliban.

“Why did Susan Rice say he served with honor and distinction?” she asked. “It was clear to the military as soon as he left what had happened, according to his former fellow soldiers?”

Andrea, as Chairman Dempsey said this morning, we need to give Sgt. Bergdahl an opportunity to tell his story,” Blinken dodged, refusing to address Rice’s claim. “Right now we’re focused on bringing him back to the United States. He hasn’t even spoken to his family yet. There’s a whole transition process that goes on.”

First, they are not classified as POWs.

Second, I had no idea the war on terror will end this year. That is good news........I just hope the bad guys hear about it.

The government...or the hacks that will now tear this guy apart no matter what because Obama got him back in exchange for bad guys?

Susan Rice is O-fer when it comes to handling these things. I don't think she is stupid, I just think she is blinded by her love of the president. A true believer.

Wouldn't one have to be a complete idiot to be a true believer?

Knowing that Krauthammer despises the President leads me to believe that he wants him to be solely responsible. Creates some very interesting dynamics.

So you concede that your boy Krauthammer is a hack? :shocking:

Meh, he hates Obama about as much as Rather hated the Bushes. About as much as David Gregory hates the right, which is about as much as Hannity hates the left. Are they hacks? Are the celebrities? Or is non-partisan journalism dead?

Not dead but it's sure on it's last gasp. Twenty years ago the likes of Fox News and MSNBC would've been considered abominations of "journalism". Now it's just smart marketing :(

The Obama administration largely bypassed the intelligence community to green-light the risky swap of five Taliban leaders for American Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, officials tell Fox News, as new details emerge about concerns with the deal at the highest levels of President Obama's team.

A military intelligence source also confirmed to Fox News that a second option -- involving the payment of a cash ransom for Bergdahl's freedom -- was pursued as late as December 2013.

The source said the goal was to reach out to Pakistan leadership with direct ties to the Taliban, and float the possibility of trading cash, instead of prisoners, for Bergdahl. That option, though, was put "on hold" in December when it was made clear the administration intended to pursue a prisoner swap.

Krauthammer is a pretty smart guy. If he blasts Obama, I tend to find him more credible then some of the others. Krauthammer can also admit if Obama is correct with an issue. He's the best contributor on fox news by a lot.

A top member of the House Intelligence Committee had this to say. He most likely knows more than Sho Nuff and Newbie.

“What concerns me is the future. This puts all Americans at risk throughout the world, including our men and women on the front line…for kidnapping.”

A top member, huh? Is that like Fox's famous "An unidentified white house spokesman"?

What I find funny is the people who act as if we've not done this before. I posted an article on the last page that said we've been negotiating with terrorists this entire war.

"The Pentagon is making the argument that American soldiers would become targets for kidnapping," says a senior administration official. "We pushed back on that. They already are - the Taliban and Al Qaeda have been using their resources to kidnap Americans for years." Prisoner exchanges take place at the ground level all the time in Afghanistan, and Gen. David Petraeus, now the head of the CIA, has pointed out in discussions about Bowe that U.S. forces made distasteful swaps in Iraq - including one involving Qais Khazali, a Shiite extremist who orchestrated the kidnapping and execution of four U.S. soldiers in Karbala in 2007.

It's nothing we haven't been doing already.

I have no idea about the other things you are babbling about, so I'll stick to this one.

Are you claiming a top member of the intel committee did not say that?

Seems quite anonymous to me. Seems I could write a story and say an undisclosed sourse said "Blah blah blah".

I figure a high ranking member of the Intel Committee would be good enough. Why are you so interested in a name?
