stonewall 647 Posted August 9, 2014 I've been keeping my cards a little closer to my vest in recent years, as I believe that there are several owners whom I compete with that lurk here. However, I do like to kick a long-shot deep sleeper out there each year for the consideration of my compadres that use this bored .......and this year it is: Juwan Thompson, 5'11"/225 free agent RB outta Duke, Broncos Bottomline: some RB on the Denver roster is likely going to be a fantasy stud. Guys like Ball, Hillman, and Anderson (concussed) don't exactly instill confidence. Sure, it is possible that Juwan Thompson doesn't even make the final roster, but if you have been paying close attention to training camp news, you will know that he has been making quite a splash....good pass-catching back (soft hands), pass-blocks well (vital), good vision & burst, and can bulldoze or shake and bake. -Thompson has apparently started to separate himself from the Broncos' other undrafted free agents, which still leaves him behind Montee Ball, Ronnie Hillman and C.J. Anderson. However, there could be some opportunity here, as the Broncos don't exactly have the strongest group of running backs. Anderson showed up to OTAs out of shape, and Thompson has even taken a few carries with the second-team offense in goal-line situations. Hillman, currently No. 2 on the depth chart, failed to capitalize on opportunities in the past, while Ball struggled to hold onto the ball last season. Thompson still needs a bunch of things to happen to make any impact this year, but he's in a far better situation than your typical undrafted rookie running back. (rotowire) -Denver Broncos RB Juwan Thompson, who was an undrafted rookie, had six carries for 59 yards in the team's preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks Thursday, Aug. 7, including a 20-yard scamper on a third-quarter drive. Thompson has not disappointed in training camp, and he has a good feel for pass protection and can catch the ball. He's also the biggest back on the roster at 225 pounds. Thompson is currently the No. 4 running back on the depth chart. Thompson reminds us of former Falcons RB Jason Snelling. He's a running back/fullback 'tweener who can catch out of the backfield. Thompson might be the best back in terms of pass-protection ability on the roster. He played at Duke under David Cutcliffe, Peyton Manning's former OC at the University of Tennessee. We're not calling him a "lock" for the final roster, but he certainly made a great first impression last night. (Source: ESPN.com - Jeff Legwold) Long shot? Yes. Cost? Negligible. Finally, here are a few highlights for your consideration....kid has some game. Best of luck this season.
BobSanders_33 127 Posted August 9, 2014 That is a very interesting highlight video. He has quick feet and keeps them moving, excellent size and plus speed. Reminded me a lot of Zac Stacy. The question is how did he end up a UFDA? I'll have him on the ww speed dial but I think it might be hard for a rook to come in and have the knowledge to play at the speed Manning likes. NEWPOSTERGUY! 288 Posted August 9, 2014 - not a bad call, but would've been ballsier/deeper prior to the Ball/Anderson setbacks ...
IMMensaMind 462 Posted August 9, 2014 I like Thompson a lot. I don't play in any dynasty leagues, or I'd have him listed highly.
DrG 103 Posted August 9, 2014 Best pass blocking back on a Peyton manning team? Keep an eye on this guy late in the season
Flgatorguy87 160 Posted August 9, 2014 Sounds crazy but that Cutcliffe link might be a big factor. It's rumored that Peyton has a very small circle of trust and Cutcliffe is no doubt in that circle.

SaintsInDome2006 739 Posted October 7, 2014 Denver Broncos RB Juwan Thompson (knee) left the Week 5 game against the Arizona Cardinals due to a knee injury. http://www.fantasysp.com/player/nfl/Juwan_Thompson/3693239/broncos-juwan-thompson-injured Anyone have any updates opn this? If Juwan is out or limited I think that makes CJ Anderson even more of a play.
BuschWack 60 Posted October 7, 2014 Nice post Stones. Didn't mean to hi-jack this post with my other thread. Didn't see this until I looked a little closer. I agree with your take here.

I watched the game (with an eye on Thompson) and didn't see an indication of the injury, though I kind of glazed over late in that ugly mess. Can't find any mention of it anywhere other than that link.

stonewall 647 Posted October 7, 2014 Nice post Stones. Didn't mean to hi-jack this post with my other thread. Didn't see this until I looked a little closer. I agree with your take here. No problem He is definitely a deep sleeper, but the upside vs. cost is intriguing.
stonewall 647 Posted December 11, 2014 Well, my long-shot nibbled a few times but never swallowed the hook. It's been a long climb, but he is now just one wrong Anderson gimpy-ankle-twist away from ff stardom in the Ship. Stashing him and/or blocking my opponents in the 5 leagues that I am still alive in.....just in case. Anybody else?
SaintsInDome2006 739 Posted December 11, 2014 Didn't he actually lead the broncs in rushing yards om Sunday? I wish I had extra room, but I don't. I will say I had Hillman and the game before he got hurt he had a little tweak like this that I and most people blew off, then he pushed it and it was open season on whoever would be replacing him. If Juwan got the chance then I think he could do extremely well. Also for dyno purposes I'd say the broncs need to consider dealing Ball because a CJA/Hillman/Juwan combo would be very nice for them moving forward.
