HT is pretending NY the state is the same thing as NYC. Your state naked bearhugs NJ, the arm pit of America. Cape Cod > Long Island. MA has poor areas, but upstate NY is different level messed up. Education, health care. Housing is expensive because people want to be there

I think you are if you look at all taxes and by all taxes I mean anything charged by a government agency (licenses, permits, vehicle registration, etc.). At one point (2010ish) I had an in-depth analysis of all 50 states but I can't find it. It is hell getting old.
