Trump has a clear pattern of being a very tough negotiator at the start and then walking things back later on. I imagine that is how China will resolve. By itself, its not a better or worse style. What is important is that it is a NEW style foreign nations aren't used to seeing from the US, so it gives Trump an advantage until the rest of the world catches up and evolves counter-policy to thwart it. Its almost like the NFL where an offense innovates and that works great for a while until defenses catch up.
