It’s well documented that attendance at Major League Baseball games has been declining since 2012. About 68.5 million fans attended major league games during the 2019 regular season, down from a peak of nearly 80 million in 2007.

Astros cheating doesn't help. Cost people like Joe Girardi their jobs.

I attribute this to television technology. All sports are better and cheaper to watch from home.

Isn't their attendance down as well?

The league has doubts about the newly relocated LA teams surviving.

I personally do not go to baseball games anymore because of the new netting that litters Great American Ballpark. If you go to a baseball game to text and catch pokemans you deserve a foul ball to the face.

Meanwhile, an avg MLS team is worth less than $250M.

But, but.....it’s the most popular sport in the world!

Ok. Well, if you want to get technical. Sure, I agree with that other than the medical aspect.

That's because the newer stadiums are being built with less seats.  The less seats their seats are, the higher to cost based on demand... also the cheaper the cost for maintenance.  Veterans stadium, 3 Rivers, Candlestick, etc all were around 50k plus capacity... now, Citizen's Bank Park, PNC Park, and Oracle Park around at least 20% smaller.  So, if they peaked at 80M and they're around 68.5M, seems like the numbers are about the same, no?
