"Night Court" reboot... Now Canceled...

Recommended Posts

Quote

“The verdict is in and the ‘new-boot’ of Night Court is a hit! The series’ razor-sharp humor makes the show a weekly must-watch,” said Channing Dungey, Chairman and CEO, Warner Bros. Television Group. “We’re overjoyed that court will remain in session and return with new cases for season two. We’re so grateful to our colleagues at NBC, to the richly talented creative team led by Melissa Rauch, Winston Rauch, Dan Rubin, and John Larroquette, and to the stellar ensemble cast.”

I must have missed some episodes.

Episode five had a couple of funny lines, but all of them delivered by Larroquette...  That has been the process for the other episodes...

This episode was just annoying...  The prosecuting attorney was one of the two story lines and maybe it is me, but she just can't act herself out of a paper bag...  If this show continues on for more than two seasons, she should be replaced until the find someone good...  The other story line of Abby smelling like sausage and men soccer body odor because she lives above a German restaurant, was stupid...  And having the bailiff to help her find a new apartment?  Whatever...

I give new shows up to five episodes to hook me in as a must watch, but this has completely missed the mark...  Rauch can't carry the show as the lead and even the couple times that the court clerk on was just awful IMO...  Time to pull the plug on the reboot in my opinion...  I don't know, if it gets better this year or next, I might revisit it, but it isn't must see TV for me...

Not just you my friend, She's terrible. Not much else to add to this---I'm only tuning in at this point cause my DVR doesn't have anything else on it for Tuesday.  It's that or and the Tuesday PTI for me to watch when I'm jogging.

Dan's "Wait...I am the hero, it is about me" line reading did make me legitimately LOL.

Yeah that was one of them for sure...  Maybe he gets all the good lines because he is the only one that can deliver them well...

"Night Court (4.3 million viewers/0.5 demo rating) dipped for a fourth straight episode since its well-watched debut..."

Amazing that a show pulling in 4.3 million viewers is enough to give it a second season...

Definitely no loss...  I haven't watched it since the fifth episode of the first season, but I couldn't imagine her being any better...

Night Court: India de Beaufort Not Returning as Olivia in Season 3

The verdict is in: Another Night Court cast member is heading for the exits.

India de Beaufort, who played prosecutor Olivia on the NBC sitcom, is leaving after two seasons and won’t return for the upcoming Season 3, TVLine has confirmed.

de Beaufort broke the news herself in an Instagram post earlier this month, the same day Night Court was renewed for a third season at NBC: “For the last two years, I have had the immense privilege of driving onto the WB lot and walking onto a stage filled with the most hard working, loving and talented cast and crew that comedy has to offer. Today they received a [Season 3] pick up. Knowing and loving them as I do, I am beyond overjoyed for the most deserving people I know. I will miss the honor of being in their brilliant company, but my god. That was fun. My time at Night Court has come to an end.”

She added: “I owe a great thanks to NBC, WB, After January Productions and our Writers / Producers / Directors / Cast and Crew for two incredible years. My favorite thing about this business is how often old friends appear in new places; that’ll be a day I look forward to greatly.”

de Beaufort co-starred as Olivia Moore, the tightly wound prosecuting attorney who reluctantly struck up a friendship with Melissa Rauch’s Judge Abby Stone and with bailiff Gurgs, played by Lacretta. The cast also includes John Larroquette, reprising his role as Dan Fielding from Night Court’s original NBC run.

This marks the second original cast member to leave Night Court: Kapil Talwalkar exited the series ahead of its second season as court clerk Neil, with Nyambi Nyambi joining the Season 2 cast as new court clerk Wyatt.

I didn't even follow my own rule of checking out the 2nd season to see if they retooled it, like Parks and Rec or The Office, the first season was so bad. I'm shocked it's getting picked up for a third season.

Canceled after three seasons…

https://tvline.com/news/night-court-cancelled-nbc-revival-john-larroquette-1235436372/

Night Court is no longer in session: NBChas cancelled the courtroom comedy revival after three seasons, TVLine has confirmed, though it is possible that Warner Bros. Television could shop the sitcom around to another network or streamer.

The continuation of the 1984-92 courtroom comedy starred Melissa Rauch (The Big Bang Theory) as Judge Abby Stone, who presided over the same New York City night court as her late father Harry Stone (played on the original series by Harry Anderson, who died in 2018). John Larroquette reprised his role as attorney Dan Fielding, who served as the night court’s public defender. The supporting cast included Lacretta as bailiff Gurgs, Nyambi Nyambi as court clerk Wyatt and sitcom vet Wendie Malick, who joined the cast full-time in Season 3 as new prosecutor Julianne. Marsha Warfield, who played Roz on the original Night Court, dropped by occasionally to reprise her role as well.

Debuting in January 2023, Night Courtreturned for Season 3 in November, wrapping up its run in May. Season 3 leaned heavily into Rauch’s Big Bangconnections, with Mayim Bialik guest-starring as herself in a January episode and Simon Helberg popping up in the Season 3 finale. Ratings were down, though, with total viewership slipping 36% versus last season to an average of 1.95 million per episode. Among all NBC scripted shows, it only outdrew freshmen Suits LA and Grosse Pointe Garden Society.

Lasted 2.75 seasons too long.

They should have just replayed the original Night Court. I'm guessing though some current day nancy would have gotten offended by something though.

I tried five episodes and just could not get into it...  Melissa Rauch just doesn't have the "umph" to be the lead IMO...
