Few receivers could have caught that fastball Herbert threw to Williams in the back of the end zone.

This is a huge game.  Raiders are in disarray and Broncos are an aaron Rodgers away from contention.  Chargers will have swept chiefs if they win this.  Chiefs would then need to finish a full game ahead of the chargers for a playoff home game.

If this dumbass Lombardi keeps it up the Chiefs will cruise.

Looks like Ekler is out.  Not that Fox will let us know.

Now Keenan Allen is hurt.

They have to stop these late season Thursday night games. They should just have 3 Saturday games.

Staley must have told Lombardi to start running it. It’s working.

Have to give the Chiefs credit.  They were ready for that inside zone to Ekeler going left from the 5 that they run every single game.

No way analytics says to go for it here.  The whole point is you pin the other team deep and can get the ball back.  That doesn't apply here.

And once again teams shoot themselves in the foot in the name of analytics.

Analytics, LOL.  How about common sense next time.

Yup. I’ll say it again, Analytics covers up for stupid decisions. There’s a time for it. Let the OC worry about that. The HC has to look big picture.

Always take the points, Coach is a dumb a####s. Going to cost you the game.

You can see it coming. They just can’t apply it properly. Just like Mike Tomlin still can’t figure out when to go for two after all this time.

The thing about the analytics is they're probably right that going for it has a higher expected value, but it's only going to be by a small margin.  You're expected value on that decision my be something like +0.3 points or something, bit for those .3 points, you're introducing a higher variance.

I'd propose that consistently getting 3 on those decisions is better than averaging 3.3 points on those decisions, but wildly inconsistent.

Chiefs are winning a lot of games on the reputation of their 2019 offense.

Chargers need to fire whomever is feeding them these decisions.

I don't know much about this chargers coach, but he doesn't seem to trust his defense much

Also next man up for chiefs d.  There is still some exposure out there, and I assume the chargers can eventually expose it.

9 points lost due to poor coaching,

Don’t mind the last one, but the first two were just stupid.

I like the teams that are smart enough to commit a flase start on these stupid 4th down attempts.

One thing these analytics guys don't get either is when you go for it on 4th the defense is going to bring their A+ effort.  You're essentially challenging them.  On the other hand the offense is like this is just another play.

The analytics guys use historical 4th down conversion percentages, but those are in situations where the offense is also bringing their A+ focus because they need the play to win the game.  Analytics can't capture the manalytics of the sport.

Ekeler fights for the extra 4 yards to make sure they go for it again.  Finally get one.

I know that didn't convert on that 2nd and short but that was a sick play by Herbert to hold that defender off with a stiff arm while he got rid of the ball.

Thank goodness they converted that 4th down so they could turn it over at the one.

Chargers literally run the same two plays every single time they get to the five yard line and it works 75% of the time.  Inside zone left or outside zone left.  And it's almost always on first down, and teams constantly let them do it.

This Chiefs playcalling is horrible.  Always dink and dunk.  They need to unleash the full potential of this offense.

Defenses are forcing them to dink and dunk.  Staley defenses especially are designed to force teams to be patient and put together long drives.

  • Thanks 1
