Oil Prices Sink as Ukraine Agrees to Peace Deal

By Charles Kennedy - Nov 25, 2025, 7:40 AM CST
  • Oil prices, with WTI dropping below $60 per barrel, extended losses following reports that Ukraine has mostly agreed to a peace deal with the U.S.
  • The agreement, which still has minor details to be sorted out, was confirmed by a U.S. official and a statement from Ukraine's Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Rustem Umerov.
  • Traders anticipate that a peace deal could lead to the easing of sanctions on Russia's energy exports, compounding existing concerns about an already oversupplied oil market.

Steve Witkoff helped Russia derail Ukraine’s access to Tomahawk missiles. He tipped off the Kremlin about Zelensky’s U.S. visit, giving Moscow time to arrange a call that convinced Trump to block the deal. Witkoff actively works against Ukraine’s defense, in coordination with Putin’s regime.

“.. the Witkoff-Dmitriev plan” demands that a substantial share of $300 billion of frozen Russian state assets “be carved up between Washington and Moscow .. This has apparently disappeared from subsequent versions, but there’s no mistaking the intent.”

The grift never stops

Seriously the mere concern & potential for this sort of scenario is what got Alger Hiss indicted for spying.

There’s a difference between saying stop all funding for Ukraine Vs. America’s no. 1 adversary influencing him to take that decision through his de facto national security advisor.

I agree, it’s not our war. It’s Russia’s and Putin’s war. It started in 2014 when Ukraine sought to join the EU, and it was encouraged when we did nothing about Chechnya in 1999 & Georgia in 2008. And we did nothing while Putin pounded Mariupol, Donetsk & Luhansk through 2021. We promised to protect Ukraine in the Budapest agreement as well. But it is 100% Russia’s war.

However you should know as confected, by Russia, this agreement requires the US to pay plenty, as we will have a hand in reconstruction of what Russia obliterated. Kushner’s presence certainly ensures the Trump Org & the Trump family will get paid as part of that, as with Gaza.

Maga has gotten:

- a new military alliance with UAE & Saudi Arabia.

- military strikes in the Caribbean & possibly a war there.

- threats of war in Nigeria.

- air strikes in Somalia.

- promise to intervene & reconstruct Israel’s damage in Gaza.

- promise to reconstruct Russia’s damage in Eastern Ukraine.

- promise of support for Syria, a country led by a man Trump personally called a terrorist.

Helluva ride.

Before you go into the Yuzhe, you should know there’s a published recording & transcript of the call and one of the Russian participants has already verified it. The Russians totally love to humiliate the Americans so they’re happy to own it.

WSJ: White House Defends Witkoff After Leak of Conversation With Russian Official

Special envoy reportedly coached Putin aide on dealing with Trump on Ukraine

The White House is defending special envoy Steve Witkoff over reports of a leaked conversation in which he told a Russian official that praising President Trump would help smooth over a call with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the war in Ukraine.

Witkoff also suggested that Putin call Trump ahead of a White House visit by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, a conversation that gave the Kremlin an opportunity to press the case against giving Kyiv Tomahawk cruise missiles.

Bloomberg News reported Tuesday that Witkoff, Trump’s special envoy for a variety of diplomatic missions, had a phone call last month with a senior Russian official to suggest they work together on a peace plan for Ukraine and said that Putin should bring up the idea with Trump. The outlet also published a transcript of the Oct. 14 phone call between Witkoff and Yuri Ushakov, Putin’s top foreign-policy aide.

The White House didn’t dispute the veracity of the reported transcript and praised Witkoff for his discussions with Russian officials.

“It’s a standard thing,” Trump said Tuesday of Witkoff’s negotiating, adding he is likely making similar comments to Ukrainians. “That’s what a dealmaker does.”

The Kremlin didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Witkoff advised Ushakov that Putin should congratulate Trump for the Gaza peace deal, according to the report.

In a summary of the Oct. 16 Trump-Putin call, Ushakov confirmed the Russian president praised Trump on helping broker a Middle East cease-fire.

“Our president started out by congratulating Donald Trump on his successful efforts to normalize the situation in the Gaza Strip,” he said.

In the phone call with Ushakov, Witkoff further suggested that Putin call Trump shortly before Zelensky’s Oct. 17 visit to the White House, according to the Bloomberg report. Zelensky traveled to Washington hoping Trump would authorize the transfer of long-range Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, a weapon that would put many Russian targets in Kyiv’s crosshairs.

But on the Oct. 16 call, Putin warned Trump that sending the Tomahawks would escalate the war and harm U.S.-Russia relations, according to Ushakov.

While Trump previously expressed concerns about the dwindling American inventory of the missile, the Putin conversation convinced him not to support handovers of Tomahawks to Ukraine, U.S. officials said.

Reacting to the leaked Witkoff conversation with Ushakov, some Republican lawmakers called on the administration to change course.

“This is a major problem. And one of the many reasons why these ridiculous side shows and secret meetings need to stop,” Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R., Pa.) said on X. “Allow Secretary of State Marco Rubio to do his job in a fair and objective manner,” he said.

Rep. Don Bacon (R., Neb.), who has been critical of the Trump administration for its handling of the negotiations, said the report showed Witkoff needs to be pushed aside. Witkoff “acts like he’s on Russia’s payroll,” Bacon said. “This whole incident has been a fiasco and a blemish on our country. He needs to be fired,” he added.

Bloomberg’s report on the call—which The Wall Street Journal couldn’t independently verify—offered a potential glimpse into the origins of a 28-point peace plan that emerged in recent days and was widely viewed as friendly to Russia.

That plan called for Ukrainian concessions known to be red lines, including giving up territory Russia hadn’t conquered, capping the size of Ukraine’s military and ruling out membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

In the call with Ushakov, Bloomberg reported, Witkoff discussed some of those concessions, alluding to Ukraine giving up all of Donetsk—a Ukrainian region that remains divided after years of brutal warfare.

“Now, me to you, I know what it’s going to take to get a peace deal done: Donetsk and maybe a land swap somewhere,” Witkoff told Ushakov, according to the Bloomberg transcript.

U.S. and Ukrainian officials have since negotiated and narrowed the plan to 19 points, with final issues to be worked out by Zelensky and Trump. Ukrainian officials have praised the progress made on the plan.

Still, the rapidly unfolding events have heaped pressure on Zelensky. The peace plan has the support of two of Trump’s most trusted foreign-policy advisers—Witkoff and the president’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, the two men credited with finalizing the Gaza cease-fire and hostage deal. Zelensky also faces a corruption scandal involving a top aide, leaving him less room to agree to a deal with

with concessions many Ukrainians would find unpalatable.

Earlier Tuesday, Trump said in a social-media post that he has directed Witkoff to meet with Putin in Moscow while Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll will be meeting with the Ukrainians. “I look forward to hopefully meeting with President Zelensky and President Putin soon, but ONLY when the deal to end this War is FINAL or, in its final stages,” he added.

A separate Bloomberg report was published Tuesday about a conversation between Ushakov and Kirill Dmitriev, chief of Russia’s sovereign-wealth fund and an important broker for Putin with U.S. officials. In the call transcript, Ushakov pushed for the plan being negotiated with the Americans to take a “maximum position.” According to the transcript, Dmitriev said, “I don’t think they’ll take exactly our version, but at least it’ll be as close to it as possible.”

Dmitriev called the report fake in a social-media post.

What do you think wars are fought for? Land and money, and power. Trump won't be taking money himself, that's a Biden thing; Trump is going to get what he can for the US of A.
