  1. 1. Which song from 1985 do you like best?

    • Heart - These Dreams
      4
    • Motley Crue - Smokin' in the Boys Room
      2
    • David Lee Roth - California Girls
      2

The draft is winding down and I have an opening for 1985 to fill with the last pick of the draft. I've narrowed it down to these three song

  • Heart - "These Dreams"
  • Motley Crue - "Smokin' in the Boys Room"
  • David Lee Roth - "California Girls"

It wasn't a particularly strong year, this'll be my least favorite song on my list, but I do like them all and think these are all pretty solid choices for that year.

Other 1985 songs the fellas have already taken by way of comparison:

Dokken's The Hunter, In My Dreams, and It's Not Love

Ratt's You're in Love and  Lay It Down

Motley Crue's Home Sweet Home and

Y&T's Summertime Girls

It's one of the weaker years IMO which is why I'm not overly concerned someone whos already picked a song from that year will see my list and use a wildcard selection to jump back in and snipe one of my options. They have the entire catalog of songs to choose from.

Dokken Breaking the Chains is also taken, but you are missing one incredible song from Under Lock and Key that hasn't been taken yet.
Hint: Think Zeus

There are a few. I took Every Rose Has It's Thorn but they didn't release an album in 1985

I was tempted to take Smoking in The Boys Room with my last pick but another Crue song I like better that is still out there in my opinion. Which may not take either one. Anyhow voted that one for you out of the choices since you need to fill the year 1985.

It wasn't on the list of hair bands. If we had a unanimous consent rule - and we should have if we'd though that far in advance - it would have passed.

I feel bad because I'm the one who pushed the rules about using the lists. The idea of the list was to avoid arguing if this or that was a hair band. It worked well in that it kept Journey, Metallica, Billy Squire, Aldo Nova, AC/DC and such other bands off the list and that cleaned the draft up well IMO. You're in or you're out. But it should have allowed for Steel Panther, which, every one of us I'm sure, would have agreed to accept.

Breaking the Chains is from earlier like 81 or 82. I only listed the Under Lock and Key options and that album got plucked pretty good already, three songs taken from it by three different people.

We should have gone many more rounds. The draft could have been doubled. We're leaving a ton on the table.

You get dibs. Everyone gets dibs.

Mr. Irrelevant is for sorting though what's left over after everybody else goes.

Zeus has nothing to do with chains...Different hint :  What is Zeus weapon and will it ever strike twice?

There is so many good songs left and why I say since I don't have to go year now might not draft any Crue with my last pick. Yes I agree about Mr. Irrelevant.

I've got no problem with  Brass Kittehh not being able to be picked by myself. None at all. :)
Doesn't mean I'm not gonna give everyone sh1t for it, tho.

Ugh---These Dreams might be Heart's weakest hit song and two cover songs...I'll go with DLR just for the quality of the chicks in the video.

Much like most of Dokken songs, the studio version is way better.  George could never pull of his incredible solos off live :(

You remember the song, tho, right?

Yes. I never bought this album but we listened to a lot of Dokken in my circle of Army friends. Not my squad, they were into rap, I'd hang out with ORF section. It was because I spent so much time with ORF that I got to ride around in their tanks.

This is a tangent:

I was in third shop maintenance. That meant that if a unit level mechanic didn't the proper tools /equipment required for a job they'd send it to us. We were maintenance support for the whole battalion. ORF section was also a part of third shop. They had filler vehicles, kind of like a temporary rental. Meaning if your HUMVEE or Bradley or 5Ton or whatever was in the shop for repair, they kept a spare or three and they'd lend you one of theirs to replace it in the mean time. https://www.army.mil/article/166169/what_to_do_about_operational_readiness_floats

We can trade? I'd not considered that. Run it by bostonlager.

I put it out there as a goof but if we set parameters before would be interesting- to complicated to do starting final round
