How did your team do in the draft?

Recommended Posts

Another year, another draft behind us! How did your team do? Let's hear everyone's thoughts on their teams selections.

I'll start with the Patriots.

Overall grade: D

I'll be honest. I have never thought that Bill Belichick was a genius. Like myself, he was a legacy in the industry that he chose to join. He has just be exposed to so much more football/coaching, because of his father, that nobody can hope to catch up. Until Now. He is so set in his ways and at the point of his career that he refuses to change. This draft encapsulates what I am talking about.

A Guard in round one? Not to totally dismiss the guard position, but when have you ever watched a game and at the end thought that a guard was the reason for the win/loss? I don't care if Strange is a perennial Pro Bowler, the Pats needed a difference maker on offense, or defense. Their biggest needs were (and are!) CB, ILB, OLB & WR. I'll give them credit that they correctly identified that they were lacking speed in all facets of the team (please see their disembowelment by Buffalo in the playoffs last year), but the players that they drafted seem to be structural role players. They aren't difference makers. Long gone are the days if "In Bill we trust." After last years draft, Bob Kraft admitted that the team had instituted a new draft philosophy that included more decision makers than just Bill and it was a good draft. This year it seemed like Bill went back to the old ways of doing things.

Giants aced the first round, which wasn't that surprising with the 5th and 7th overall picks. After that, I honestly don't have a clue. They picked 11 players so hopefully the ole' draft cliche of the more swings you get the better you'll do holds true. I give them an A for round 1 and I guess a B- for the rest, maybe a B overall, but who knows. Wandale Robinson and Kadarious should be fun to watch. Fun topic Iceman:headbanger:

They did Ace the first round.  I thought their next pick in round 2(Robinson) was taken a round earlier than they needed to take him, but I think he does have potential.

The next pick, Ezeudu is solid but not specacular, but does fill a need.   He has potential to start right away, but in reality, I think he could be up to a full season away.   But the Giants have needed help for the line so if I am a New York fan I'm ok with this.   I think he could be that help they need.....   sooner or later

but I do think the draft was very good likely B+ to A-  but most importantly they nailed it where it counted in round 1.   This makes me lean to A- more than B+

Chiefs A+

Who gave me the crazy eyes?  Look at how pff graded the Chiefs draft.  They not only got great value where they drafted their players, but they got them to fill positions of need.   No more Dan Sorenson on the field.   No more Ben Niemann.  If the defensive pieces they added live up to hype (and recent Brett Veach drafts seem to indicate they are effective at evaluating college talent), there shouldn't be players on defense opposing teams can consistently target.  They had to address losing charvarious ward and they did, and not only that loaded the secondary with talented young players.  Our offense will be fine with mahomes and a young, talented o- line.   And the defense just got faster, more athletic and the guys they went after aren't afraid to tackle.   I'm super excited.

From pff:

Day 1: While it required a trade-up, Trent McDuffie is a great addition for the Chiefs at No. 21 overall. McDuffie was the 11th-ranked player overall on PFF’s big board and had one of the best careers PFF College has ever seen. He turned in an 80.0-plus grade as a true freshman, sophomore and junior, something just one other Power Five corner has accomplished in the PFF College era. He may be small, but he possesses elite awareness and top-notch athleticism and is a physical tackler. McDuffie has all the traits to be a versatile chess piece for Kansas City.

Karlaftis’ slide ends with the Chiefs at 30th overall, making him the biggest steal of Round 1. He turned in a 90.6 pass-rush grade as one of the few game-wreckers in college football last season. Also known as the college football Greek Freak, the 6-foot-4, 266-pounder boasts some of the best hand usage in the class and plays with big-time power and an impressive get-off. Karlaftis posted the fourth-best win rate in the Power Five on true pass rushes this past season despite being consistently chipped, doubled and cut.

Day 2: Skyy Moore was a first-round prospect in PFF’s eyes, once again giving the Chiefs one of the biggest steals of the NFL draft. The highest-graded wide receiver of the 2021 college football season wasn’t any of the Power Five top prospects — it was Western Michigan’s Skyy Moore. The 5-foot-10, 195-pound receiver’s 26 broken tackles after the catch tied for the most among wide receivers in 2021, and he ranked in the 95th percentile in separation percentage. Despite his smaller stature, Moore had no issue handling press coverage on the outside, ranking top-five in yards per route run on those reps last season at 3.58. The cherry on top is his strong hands — the Western Michigan pass-catcher checked in with the largest hands of anyone at the Combine (10.25 inches) and dropped just three of his 125 targets in 2021 while catching eight of his 13 contested opportunities.

Bryan Cook is a physical tackler who could be an impact player in the NFL if he can stay healthy. Cincinnati head coach Luke Fickell said he ran a 4.45-second 40-yard dash in the winter, but injuries that he played through during the season kept him from testing in the pre-draft process. His best role in Kansas City will be around the line of scrimmage at box safety.

Kansas City gets an absolute steal here with Leo Chenal in the third round. Chenal packs a punch as a downhill player, as he can light up offensive linemen with ease. His 94.1 run-defense grade wasn’t too far behind Micah Parsons‘ (94.8) PFF college record. He finished the pre-draft process as PFF’s No. 36 overall player.

Day 3: Darian Kinnard is one of the most accomplished run-blockers at the tackle position in college football. Even though he may end up at guard, he earned 89.0-plus run-blocking grades over the past three seasons.

Draft Grade: A+

The Cowboys...

Well, they made some nice picks, I suppose. Like with all of them though, the jury is still out..

They got some help on the OL, at WR, LB, and for the 2nd season in a row, picked a big 320+ lbs DT late in the hopes of having a decent run stuffer.

Only time will tell...

Not crazy eyes (reminds me of crazy eyed killer from curb your enthusiasm), but I looked a little harder at the Chiefs draft. First of all, I 'm not sure a high grade from PFF is something you want. The Giants received high grades from them for the last few years and we all know how that turned out. Glancing at other publications I saw some B and B+, so perhaps you are cherry picking elf-style. As for the Chiefs draft, its fine some good players but nothing special I'll give it a B. Mcduffie is a good player but not trade up in the first round special. He will help as a plug and play corner, but not an all-pro level talent. Sky Moore is nice but not even a poor man, more like a bankrupt Tyreek Hill. Really though he doesn't resemble Hill at all is more like a lesser Juju. He does have an Elite QB throwing him the ball so I'm sure he'll make some plays, but so would anyone drafted in that range. Chenal is a nice player but not exceptional. Again fine draft but nowhere near the A+ range PFF and KC delusional homers gave it. Baltimore and the NY Jets are the only teams I saw, so far, (haven't analyzed them all), that deserve anywhere near an A+. Still a B draft can make an already good team better, nothing to be ashamed of...

its all fine that hes a good run blocker and all, but you do realize the Chiefs are a passing offense.   so hes likely only a situational guy  until his pass blocking gets up to speed.

granted if hes a day 3 pick if hes making the team its a successful pick.

either way, I guess I"m nitpicking at something thats not overly important at the end of the day.

Andy Reid is a smart guy, and this draft felt like he was heavily involved in the decision making.  no surprise there.

Seattle

I've seen most places giving B+ and A-. I think they absolutely nailed there first 6 picks. So my homerism gives them an A. I don't know there last 3 picks. But even if those guys bust, I'm still extremely happy. I was very worried they would not only draft a QB. But REALLY worried we might even trade up to do so. Alot of drafts they like to think they're the smartest guys in the room, and I'm miserable after the draft. This year I believe they nailed it.

They have a much improved defense. Revamped Oline. Still good Wr's. Now good Te's. I love Walker at Rb. Carson is in the last year of his deal, and might not ever even play again. Penny is only on a 1 year deal and is always hurt. Worst case scenario. Walker mixes in a little bit this year, and takes over next.

If Lock plays well, they're a playoff team. If he plays poorly, they miss the playoffs and know they gotta draft a QB next year. And they'll have the draft capital to move up to do so.
