TimmySmith 2,782 Posted September 24, 2022 Saw them in 2017. Awesome concert. Commented to my deadhead friend that their music was actually good with a guy that can sing and play the guitar. Not amused. But so true.

DonS 3,292 Posted June 8, 2023 Saw Grateful Dead summer of '93 when I was working out at Ft. Lewis in WA. Coworker was a fan so we ended up getting tickets for the weekend down in Eurgene, OR. Was never a big fan but damn what a memory.
AxeElf 787 Posted June 8, 2023 "There is NOTHING like a Grateful Dead concert!" And I'm sure that Grateful Dead concerts now are nothing like what they were when that was true.
cmh6476 1,010 Posted June 8, 2023 That was fn epic. Started with let the good times roll, second song was big river, which is also on a ratdog set I have a copy of from one of the last shows my brother went to in '04 before he passed, and ended with knockin on heavens door which was also on the same set. In between we heard dark star, fire on the mountain, friend of the devil, eyes of the world and I'm sure a couple others I can't remember. Looking forward to the full set list coming out in a day or so.

A large group of us came from STL and several of us ate some shrooms before the show. We were all spaced out in different seats. Once the shrooms kicked in I got antsy and claustrophobic, so I walked around and found a nice little clearing of grass off to the side of the seats that had a decent view of the stage. Within 30 minutes, everybody who ate the shrooms found their way to that spot, some strange communication happening for sure. After the show, we were hanging out by the pool at our hotel when a big thunderstorm came rolling in and the lightning display was incredible. It ranks right up there as one of my favorite nights ever. Mississippi Half-Step Franklin's Tower New Minglewood Blues Peggy-O El Paso Cumberland Blues Althea Cassidy Big Railroad Blues Man Smart/Woman Smarter Might As Well Shakedown Street Samson and Delilah To Lay Me Down Let it Grow drums He's Gone The Other One Stella Blue Sugar Magnolia Casey Jones

cmh6476 1,010 Posted June 10, 2023 Starlight is probably my favorite outdoor venue. I was surprised how long the rows were in sections at this amphitheater. But the weather was absolutely perfect and the set was great.

Except in this case the first Dark Star is listed near the end of the first set, and then again near the beginning of the second set. Seems odd to cross jams like that, even for a continuation. The huge following was based on the sense of community in the fan base that exemplified hippie ideals. A Dead show started in the parking lot on the morning of the show, with a huge barter economy taking place in the carnival atmosphere that developed. The culture transcended the music, but the music was the anchor. I only got to experience it in person once (Sandstone in KC, not Starlight), but it was astounding, and I had to agree...

I always counter by asking if they like any Blues, Hard Rock, Psychedelic Rock, Jazz, Country, Folk, Bluegrass, Reggae or Soul, because The Dead play all those genres of music and more. A blanket statement of they're the "worst music ever" is born from complete ignorance and lack of familiarity of their music catalog. It's OK to claim you don't like a band, but I believe you must have never heard more than a handful of Dead songs. Give me a music genre you like, I bet I can find a Dead song that surprises you. DonS 3,292 Posted July 8, 2023 My daughter's boyfriend went and saw them at The Gorge yesterday. She forwarded some pics. HOLY SH1T the crowd size was ridiculous! I've seen several shows there and always huge crowds, but this was unreal. I'm sure you could see weed smoke plumes from satellite like a Canadian wildfire. Bet you can’t. I’ve been around many Dead fans. I’m well aware of what they offer. And it sucks for the most part. I would rather listen to Phish and they suck too. Lifeless guitar solos that go on way too long doesn’t do it for me.

They once rented a u-haul and camped out in the Giants stadium parking lot in the early 90’s for like 5 days. I declined the invite. I like to take a shower every day. I’ve seen Springsteen in lots of places in a few countries. He’s on my shitt list too. Still love the music but Fock him. The Dead’s version of Good Lovin’ is very good I will say.
