Fairfax County schools pulls 2 books with graphic sex from libraries

.....A northern Virginia school system said it is removing two books from school libraries, including an illustrated memoir that contains explicit illustrations of sexual encounters involving children, after a parent expressed concern about them at a school board meeting.....Stacy Langton, a parent in the Fairfax County school system, questioned the school board at a public meeting Thursday about the books’ availability in high school libraries. As she quoted from explicit passages in the book, a school board member interrupted her and chastised her for using explicit language.....

Rochester School Board speaks out against a picture taken during a middle school field trip

....The Rochester School passed the censorship of trustee Andrew Weaver. The meeting went late into the night before the final vote and decision was handed down. It all stems from the fallout over a middle school field trip last November. Weaver is accused of spreading misinformation about it on social media in January that made international news....According to the independent investigation, Weaver allegedly violated 5 board laws and policies. A majority of the speeches were about the threats and harassment they started to get after the social media posting of the photo by Mr. Weaver....

....The photo in question showed kids at Nicki's Lounge in Greektown playing on poles. According to parents, they went there for lunch after a field trip because the pizza joint did not have enough seating to accommodate everyone on the trip. An independent investigation claims that Weaver did not have, nor get permission, to post that photo from parents and students. Weaver also did not check or discuss the situation with the board....it was his understanding that the students were "pole dancing." There was also a motion made which would require Weaver to issue a public apology and then step down from certain duties in the district....

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the District prohibits discrimination, bullying, and harassment against all persons, whether student, family/caregiver of a student, or District employee, on the basis of actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression, or the actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression of their associates;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, we acknowledge that this Resolution of support for LGBTQ+ inclusivity within RCS is not complete with any one action but depends on a systematic shift in paradigms and by increasing the understanding of sexual and gender diversity, recognizing that this creation requires appropriate communication, professional development, collaboration with our labor partners, and a commitment from the Board, District staff, and students
