How much does undeveloped land go for per acre in your area right now?  It's about $10,000 an acre for undeveloped, recreational land in my area.  Farm land is even more expensive.

Obviously a waterfront lot is going to go for a premium.  It's the same thing here.  I'm talking about undeveloped, raw land, like in the country.

The only way to get land for a remotely decent price per acre is to buy over 100 acres.  There's 48 acres next to me that I want to buy some day, if the owner finally decides to sell it.  About 2/3 is farmland so it's going to cost more.  I'm hoping I can afford it if he will sell to me.

In the great state of PA land goes for $2,500 - $50,000 per acre.  We purchased an additional 15 acres for $60,000 that borders our current 30 acres.  There is a small 25 acre farm that may be for sale near us too.  That will likely fetch $6,000 plus per acre.

If you adjust for cost of living there isn't much of a difference. I'd rather make 40k and live in Alabama than make 125k and live in San Francisco.
