2023 MLB Playoffs

Not sure if this has been brought up but the current MLB playoff structure is horrible.  MLB has the longest regular seasons in all of sport.  162 games.  It’s to find the best team pitching staff over time, the most consistent hitters, and a manager who juggles it all.

Then the post season consists of the best teams getting over a week off.  While that may seem like a plus to football or basketball fans,  that is a killer for a baseball team.  They play every other day for 7 months , pitching rotations, longevity and consistency.  Over a week off when you’ve played that long is like icing a field goal kicker.

Then the second round is a 5 game series not a 7 game.  WTF?

MLB needs to rethink the post season.

I said that earlier...  Manfred doesn't care, he is a terrible commissioner with terrible rule changes...

Yeah, the Rangers are the little engine who can, with the help of that $200M payroll.  Maybe you can spend another $100M on your bullpen next year and be even more of an underdog.  😉

Most of that tied up in 3 guys: deGrom, Semien Seager. deGrom has been gone most of year and Semien has been dogshiit at the plate - Seager has been the only one worth his pay this postseason…. Garcia, the mvp of the playoffs - is making all of $750k this year.

All knew going in this WS was going to be a ratings snooze fest….but the networks are really going over the top. ESPN leads with the Hardin trade AND Monday Night Football before they mentioned the WS? Wow.

It has been like this for a while...  ESPN is always now NFL the NBA first...  The only way MLB would lead off would be if the Red Sox and Yankees were in it, and thank God they aren't...

Ha, me too. Even those with no dog in the hunt, have to admit, the ALSC and WS has been full of excitement.

Hard to believe that I miss Joe Buck. Not that these guys are horrible, but Buck just has it. Didn’t notice till he was gone.

Agreed… Joe Buck is the absolute worst golf commentator in the history of television, but he is nails doing post season baseball.

Even being up 2-1, I’m still gonna say the plate umps have been absolutely awful. Maybe it’s a WS thing, we’re never in them, don’t know. But damn they’ve called some shitty balls/strikes - for both teams.

What happens when an 84 win team makes the World Series? Nice job MLB. Maybe up it top 16 teams make the playoffs.

They go on the road, get healthy, take out the #1 and # 2 top seeded teams - and play for a WS.

A team that goes on the road and takes out the 2 top seeded teams to advance wasn’t given shiit.

I'm just able to compose myself and put down some thoughts...... My grandpa started taking me to games in the middle 70's, back then it was Turnpike Stadium, later Arlington Stadium. All the years of suffering, all the years of disappointment, I can't believe we did it. Soon as that 3rd strike was called I grabbed my grandpa's pic and ran outside, looked up and said, "We did it grandpa!", bawling all the way.

Nobody is ever going to confuse this team with one of the all-time greats. But to do what they did, 12 straight wins on the road - we will forever be part of history... Man, I still can't believe it - I'm numb.

And tip of the hat to the Diamondbacks. That is one gritty team and first-class organization, especially Lovullo.
