"We've reached incredibly stupid times when it's 'controversial' to say men can't be women," Weathers said. "This calendar will serve as a reminder, men can never replace the beautiful women of America."

I see this word used a lot around here.  What do you specifically mean by this, as in what is your line in the sand?   For instance, is a co-worker asking for a different name/pronoun fitting that definition for you?

Something like that.  This demand that we play along with the game, but really overall.  I mean if someone wants to dress up, by all means have at it.  But if I happen to address them incorrectly, I did not harm them.....committ violence against them....

The movement has an element of viriol and violence that makes me want to oppose it.  Not sure how I can really explain that.....

I say let them live as they please, but leave me.....and more importantly....children....out of it....

The manipulation of science to feed this dogmatic nonsense is also troubling.

Agreed. Its cute when your three year old pretends to be a dinosaur or a lion or a bear.  Its unacceptable if your twenty year old does.  The latter needs to be slapped, not indulged.

Part of me laments this, because its weakining our nation to such an extent that I think it imperils us.

Part of me is fine with it, because they are making their kids less competitive.  That means my kids will have less competition as they go get theirs.

So I am torn.

You seem to be assuming reaction.  Real world application of what you posted- you have this co-worker.  Do you attempt to address them as they ask, or do you refuse?

It seems this is the main area I part grom the right or at leadt most around here.  The lefties don't like me because I don't want trans in sports.  The righties seem to take issue with me having no issues calling them a different name or pronoun in settings like this.  🤷‍♂️

Is an employee claiming they can’t do what’s in their job description because they are trans ? That would be a line.

I am assuming based on what I read and ingest from news. So yes.  Now, so long as this entire nonsense of misgendering being "violence", which by the was seems to not be true when applied to Jews it would seem..... so long as misuse of pronouns is not met with virulent reaction, we should be just fine.

The allowance of transgender contestants in womens sport is mysoginistic, and should be opposed by all who want to defend women.

So I am assuming you are more in line with where I am - I will treat them like a human just like everybody else, and expect the same in kind.

Like I said, I agree with you and others about sports, biology, etc.    Where I differ is specifically what I am asking, and was curious what your specific line in the sand is on pronouns/names.  Thanks.

Chicken nuggets or grilled cheese is also deciding what they eat for dinner.    Oh no - yes, I have also given my children ice cream and popsicles for dinner on occasion (when sick, hospitalized, etc.. ).   Worst parent ever.   It was an attempt at a joke, man - I just thought the food example was an odd starting point.

I’ll regretfully jump in here. I just won’t use pronouns when addressing them. They have a name, so I’ll use that. If there’s an issue using the name, then I won’t address them as anything. I’ll just state my point or question.
Where is your line? Do you have one? Is it flexible as you get more accustomed to where it currently is?

Way to intentionally miss the point.

Your kid wants ice cream tonight, no problem. Tomorrow he wants cake, you bet. The next night he wants chocolate chip cookies, go ahead son.

You wouldn't let your 5 year old decide what he eats for dinner and you know it. Stop being obtuse.

And no, chicken nuggets or grilled cheese is you deciding what they wanted was appropriate to have for dinner.

Very fair way of handling it, and that seems to be where I fall in.   I typically don't seem to use pronouns a ton anyway so I just use names more often.   Both ways you describe here are perfectly reasonable and how we have talked to all involved about it.   It's basically what we have worked into our training and hiring discussions.

I have no problem calling somebody a different name, I do it all the time.   I don't have an "issue" saying a different pronoun, as I don't think that requires any belief on my part if they are a man/woman - also one thing I have come grown to accept as an old fart with the kids is that them saying they/them often doesn't mean they think they are indeed a different sex.  It's just clunky so I often don't bother and stick to names/or general "hey, could you go do X".     If asked if a trans woman is the same a woman the answer is no, and I am against them competing against women.

“Well it became a big, big deal up in Canada,” Trump said. “And you have the Miss Canada, which is essentially the Miss Universe. It’s the pre-Miss Universe, it’s the screening for Miss Universe – and a woman, transgender was in.”

“But there’s many, many, many contestants and they agreed to let her, based on the laws of Canada and the laws in the United States, they agreed to let her participate,” he added. “So I will say there’s, there’s great interest and if you look at it from a show business standpoint, that’s wonderful. But there is certainly great interest.”

In an interview on Fox News also in April of 2012, Trump defended his decision to let Talackova compete.

“It has become a hot subject. It is being talked about all over the world right now,” Trump said. “This is a young woman, who, according to the laws of Canada and according to the laws of the United States, is allowed to enter the pageant system.”

In the same interview, Trump cited the Olympics as part of his rationale.

“We didn’t have a rule. This is sort of new territory. We are going by at some point, the Olympic rules because the Olympics are having a very big question about this – should this be allowed,” Trump said. “I said we have 58 contestants in Canada, I said let her run and maybe she will win and if she wins, she will go to Miss Universe. And I think I made the right decision, I feel fine with the decision.”

Now I get it.  Gutter was pretending to think Trump was some kind of supporter to suggest to me that my support of Trump made me a hypocrit. So now, apparently, what suffices for logic is to then find a single flaw in anyone so as to render them useless.... that is just magical logic 🤡

No...... but often I assume that people are dealing honestly, and sometimes they are not.

I surmise the attempt was "Hey, you support Trump and he supported what you oppose".   Which is middle school level logic of course.

He guess what else.....Trump opposes abortion, yep.... he surrrreeee doesss. And I support abortion....soooooo....this must prove something....right?

Is it any wonder we have a generation of stupid young people, when simple logic seems to evade their everythought.

Oh, and I was not suggesting you so much as Gutter, who is galatically stupid with alarming regularity

One of the many annoying traits of these message boards and the internet in general - of course you have to support and defend any position from any person you either voted for or are even in the same party as somebody you have voted for, right?  That's not true, you have to defend positions from people who others THINK you vote for or support, too.  ;)
