I have A Problem With That Chic Beating Pete Maravich All Time Points Record

The Iowa women have had a pretty good following for a while now.  They were a great team even before Clark.  You'd have to go back 17 years before you see them win less than 19 games.  Actually, Iowa basketball in general has been pretty damn good.

Iowa Naismith winners & runner ups:

2019: Megan Gustafson (winner)

2020: Luka Garza (runner up)

2021: Luka Garza (winner)

2022: Keegan Murray (runner up)

2023: Caitlin Clark (winner)

2024: Caitlin Clark (winner)

I wouldn’t say in either men’s or women’s basketball your attendance has been great comparatively to Iowa State.

Iowa hasn’t made a sweet 16 since the late 90s… I wouldn’t say they’ve done pretty good.  You’ve definitely had some good individual players, but it really hasn’t translated unfortunately. Yeah, Megan is great though. When I had a team in that TBT tournament, she was going to play for us. That was a wild few weeks when we announced that.

The men's attendance has been a problem for a while now.  They need to make some major changes at Carver to get attendance back up.

Yeah, you guys are actually playing really well right now. I joked with a buddy that I’m fully mentally prepared for you guys sneaking in as a 10 seed and beating us in the second round as a two seed making the sweet 16. At that point, I will slowly just walk into the sea.

Breanna Stewart... no one player has more wins, more regular season conf. champs, conf champs rings, Final Fours, MOP in FF, Championships, Naismith awards, than she does, and she was the leader of the team that has the 111 game win streak (most ever... which got a few weeks worth of recognition).  Most people never heard of her.

Kelsey Plum, who had the scoring record prior to Clark, needed 4 seasons in the WNBA to finally hit double digits in ppg.  Breanna Stewart has averaged at least 18.3 ppg her whole career.  Stewart has played in the WNBA for 7 years and won the MVP award twice and finished in the top 3 each of the last 5 seasons.  She's 2nd in WNBA history in ppg (20.82... leader is Cynthia Cooper at 20.98), and 5th all-time in rebounds per game (8.74), and has won the WNBA Championship twice.  In college, Breanna Stewart shot 58% from the field, Clark is at 46.5%.  Clark shoots 38% from 3, Stewart shot 35%.  It's harder in the WNBA, obviously, than in college.  Stewart, again - the #2 all-time scorer in ppg in the WNBA, is now shooting at 47% from the field.  Unlike Breanna Stewart (12.5 fpa per game), Clark is a gunner (19.9, much like Kelsey Plum 18.5).  She won't get those chances or looks in the WNBA.

Simply put, Breanna Stewart is the greatest female basketball player of all-time, and she couldn't get people to watch the WNBA.  Clark may get the league a bump, like Plum did, but it won't last.  If Stewart couldn't, Clark certainly won't.

If they can beat Illinois this weekend then they should be in.  I don't know how Wisconsin is still considered a lock by some though.

Patrick McCaffery on his expectations for the crowd on Sunday: "I would hope it's pretty good. But I don't know. Our crowds have been pretty bad most of the year with the exception of a couple games. So who knows. I hope it's good."

JFC…

Not to  fawking brag, but I will. Pistol Pete lived two blocks away from where I grew up. As kids, we’d ride our bikes around the neighborhood and he was always shouting hoops in his front yard double driveway practicing by himself mostly. My cool Pops asked if I knew he is and said “That’s Pete Maravich. He plays for the Jazz.” So one day my friends and I are riding our bikes and there he was. I rode up and said. Me: Are you Pistol Pete?   Pistol: I am. Do you and your friends want to play horse?

Next thing I know, we played horse for a few hours till it got dark. He is not going to let us win. It was a blast and what I learned that day has always been a great experience. I mastered the hook shot learning from him. Good times. A great ambassador to the game.

Except for Henry Aaron’s career HR record and Roger Maris’ single season HR record, all the rest of the individual stat records mean nothing in all sports.

I think Brett Favres  record for starts without an injury is up there. No one will ever come close to it. Especially a quarter back.

Gretzky's point record is incredible.

Cy Young's 511 career wins is iron-clad untouchable.

Johnny Vander Meer back to back no-hitters also untouchable, as somebody would have to throw three consecutive to break it.
