Fumbleweed 547 Posted June 11, 2024 The US Open is set to begin on Thursday . In response, here's the usual thread to further that discussion. Pinehurst #2 in North Carolina is the site of this year's championship and here is my predicted Top Ten with consideration for others noted as well. Should be a great tournament on a tough course! Top Ten: 1. Scottie Scheffler- How can I or anyone else for that matter pick another winner? Best stretch of golf since Tiger in the early 2000s. 2. Collin Morikawa- Played in the final group with Scottie at Augusta and again at the Memorial. Wouldn't surprise at all if that happens again here. 3. Xander Schauffele- Don't think he'll win a second straight major, but he's almost always in the mix. The lack of pressure of having to win his first major should help. 4. Viktor Hovland- Was up and down at the Memorial, but there's no denying how good he looked at Valhalla. Cannot leave him out of my top-five as a result. 5. Cameron Smith- First of two LIV stand-outs in this tournament, I believe. Smith has the right game to contend at US Opens. I look for him to make a run. 6. Bryson DeChambeau- LIV contender, number two. Bryson overpowered Winged Foot a few years back and a case can be made he could repeat that this week. 7. Matthew Fitzpatrick- Rounding back into form just prior to the one major he's already captured. Seems primed for a solid finish come Sunday. 8. Tony Finau- On the short list now of best players out there who haven't yet won a major. Is that major win coming soon? Not sure. But, it keeps him focused. 9. Ludvig Aberg- Hard to pick him higher than this in his very first US Open, but his talent is too tough to completely overlook. 10. Byeong Hun-An- As consistent as they come in 2024. Not likely to contend on the back nine on Sunday, but a top ten seems plausible, if not likely. i don't like the direction that Brooks and Rory are going at the moment. I know Rory torched Quail Hollow, but he has looked distracted ever since. I do have a couple of dark horse picks, but will wait to name those until EdEx draft is over. I just can't pick against Scottie even if it's the boring chalk pick. I don't post these threads to be provocative. I do it with my actual beliefs in mind, even if they're chalky. My luck the streak will end this week, but 5 of my 6 draft picks will not have a major in their pocket.
Fumbleweed 547 Posted June 11, 2024 No rain forecasted at all. It's going to be hard and fast greens. I bet the winner doesn't finish lower than -5.
Alias Detective 1,399 Posted June 11, 2024 I have a guy, English, who never missed a cut in 8 tries right along with a guy, Connors, who hasn't made a cut in 5 tries at a US Open
listen2me 23 1,873 Posted June 11, 2024 Safe but solid list. Im not really a Morikawa fan. But props to him for working on his on and around the green game. If hes going to continue to be good there or event just decent then he is 2nd in any big tourny behind Schef. As a guy who throws down bets, I spin myself in circles trying to understand how these courses will play. Ive found we tend to overrate things when looking for the angle. That and I find a variety of golfers always compete. There is rarely 1 way to skin a golf course. Of course certain players will have a better chance at certain courses. But course fit can be highly overrated outside of short hitters who are accurate having a better shot on layup courses that are more target golf. I know the course has changed some since Kaymer's win. But all I hear is scrambling will be magnified here. Well look at 2014. Bradley. Stenson. Both top 5 and more so corey conners type players. So who knows. When rounds of 70 are real good scores, it brings a variety of styles in play.

Its sort of an amazing stat as there are different types of courses. With his ball striking you would think he automatically finds an ok finish at US Opens. jerryskids 6,790 Posted June 11, 2024 With the dry conditions, it could be a blood bath. Definitely going to need scrambling, ATG, and putting skillz. That being said, what is the play into a 243 yard par 3 with dry greens?

We get birdie-fests every week during the season. Give me one week each year where I get to watch these guys struggle.

I used to think he was an annoying turd but he’s really improved his image since he joined LIV and also since he stopped wearing the Payne Stewart hat. Love when he asked SIRI to choose his club on each shot. And when he pulled a walmart bag of clubs out and played with them. No practice swings and striped the driver like
