Hardcore troubadour 15,472 Posted June 30, 2024 We had a visiting priest this morning. He’s from India but he looks Philippino, just got here from Rome. Seems like a nice guy, but I don’t know wtf he was saying. I daydreamed about my fantasy draft and who I want during his homily. I want Jamar Chase this year.

Chase is my keeper this year, so I'm hoping all the hype plays out. I keep drafting teams that are a year ahead of their time. Had I had my 2022 team for 2023, I would have won. If I had my 2023 team for this year, I bet I'd win. I had Achane, Mixon, Chase, Olave, London and others.

Instead it was all transubstantiation and Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa, Mea Maxima Culpa. To this man's inner child Pentacostalists>Catholics. To the griown man, well I have no use for any of them. I hear ya. I've gone through a similar path, which I think I've outlined here, but to briefly recount: raised Catholic, fell out of it in college, got back in when I got engaged and my fiancee wanted to join the church, raised our 3 kids through the sacraments, then fell out again. Rejoined in the past year or two, looking for spirituality and community as much as anything. I've confessed to @weepawsthat I'm still on my search, which he thinks makes me damned. I prefer to follow the prophet Miley Cyrus, who once said, "it's the climb." We too chose our house because it is right on South Mountain which provides a large variety of hiking experiences through which to experience the wonders of God. I went to church this morning, alone, to pray about my cat who passed yesterday (see other thread for details). I'm not great about seeking out companionship, but I thought it good to get out of the house and be with other people. I wasn't "asking" for anything when I prayed; more reflecting on his life and the joy he brought our family. I thanked God for bringing him into our life. In the words of Mother Teresa: Quote A reporter once asked Mother Teresa what she often said when she prayed. Mother Teresa answered saying, “Well, I don't say much. I mostly listen.” The reporter then asked her, “So what does God say to you?” And again, Mother Teresa answered, “Well, he doesn't say much – he just listens.” The communion song was "Make Me a Channel of your Peace." It is from a poem from St Francis of Assisi. I learned this morning, before mass, that St. Francis is the patron saint of animals. I had been largely meditative during the mass, but I cried some at what seemed a sign (or coincidence) given my situation. I rarely cry. It's good when I do. I don't know that evangelical services give you this same opportunity. Perhaps they do, I don't know, and I'm not judging. I say this merely to say that there is value in the Catholic mass. Quote Speaking in tongues, also known as glossolalia, is an activity or practice in which people utter words or speech-like sounds, often thought by believers to be languages unknown to the speaker. One definition used by linguists is the fluid vocalizing of speech-like syllables that lack any readily comprehended meaning. In some cases, as part of religious practice, some believe it to be a divine language unknown to the speaker.[1] Glossolalia is practiced in Pentecostal and charismatic Christianity,[2][3] as well as in other religions.[4][5] I appreciate your pursuit of knowledge, though. My wife is Catholic however, but while more religious than me is not terribly religious either. We did check out 2 different Catholic churches in our area but were not a fan. Currently free agents, have also checked out the Methodist church, some of those non-denominational ones with the band, and our kids attend a program at the Baptist church but we haven’t actually been to a service. I think I might prefer Methodist the best at least of our specific local options.

If anything my beliefs are a m,ixture of taoism, zen buddhism, and baha'i, but really I am without belief though occassionally filled with wonder. Hardcore troubadour 15,472 Posted August 3, 2024 So at tonight’s mass, the homily was about Eric Liddell, the Olympic runner that medaled at the Paris Olympics in 1924, who was one of the subjects of the movie Chariots Of Fire. What a great story about a selfless champion, who would be castigated and ridiculed by the left/ democrats today. Then the Nuns from the little sisters of the poor in the Bronx spoke. They take care of the elderly poor. Very inspiring. Got me for 25 bucks.

When I was up in Seattle, he and gratefulted drove up from Portland, and we drank beer, smoked a little weed and talked about football, music, basketball and anything but politics. We spent the next day drinking beer and watching NFL games, joined by ancient poster Flipya4real. Gratefulted is gone, God rest his soul, and I have no idea what happened to Flipya4real, but Torrid and I are friends to this day, despite a brief falling out in 2020, when we were on way opposite fence sides over the riots, which, believe or not, I lost a few liberal friends over because I told them to stop supporting them. Such an ugly time in our history, but I have faith that America is going to do what it always does, slosh around and return to the middle.
