Robert Eggers is a great director - he’ll do something interesting with this one.

Or he will end up with Eggers on his face

Wife and I saw this movie yesterday.

Very good, but as is typical w an Eggers movie it has a very slow build up.  I especially liked the sound design when Count Orlok is feeding.  Very squelchy and gross.

As an added bonus this is the first time I've seen the main actress.  She's not shy about showing off her perky little tittays.

That's Johnny Depp's kid.  Lily Rose Depp.  Looks just like him.

Yeah, I realized that after the movie.  Once I learned who she was I could definitely see the resemblance.

Heard it was just okay and light on the horror elements.

I went to go see the Northman a few years ago and remember being a bit let down.  I love Eggars but was a bit disappointed in that one.  It was still good - just not what I was expecting.

I loved The Witch and The Lighthouse. Started the Northman but it seemed like an artsy Conan so I turned it off. I’ll catch Nosferatu at home eventually.

The Witch and the Lighthouse were awesome.   Same thing here with Nosferatu - just wait for it to hit home streaming.

Not a fan of Lily Rose Depp, TBH.

This is an accurate assessment.

Definitely heavy on the Gothic vibe moreso than straight up "horror".   As I mentioned above, though, I really liked how Eggers handled the feeding parts.

The parents guide pegged it as pretty graphic with a lot of needless profanity.  Thus, my son was not allowed to see it.

Was wondering if this would be okay for my son. I’m leaning toward no.

Nudity?  100%

Profanity?  This is set in 1830s Germany and I don't remember a SINGLE bit of profanity.  :dunno: If the word "fock" was used it would have been so out of place that I would remember it.

There isn't any graphic sex or anything like that.  Depp gal shows her diamond cutters a few times but I wouldn't call it excessive and the nudity made sense given the scene.

Now Florence Pugh hanging out topless for an extended scene in Oppenheimer WAS the definition of unnecessary nudity.  NTTAWWT.

How old is the kid?

IMDB lists profanity as "Mild".

Where did you see claims of needless profanity?

12.5

Your comment is the only thing that ever made me want to see Oppenheimer. 😂

Hmmm...  12.5 is probably a bit young though not by much.  Definitely screen it first before making the call.

He’s not dying to see it anyway. We’ve watched a bunch of rated R movies with him like Terminator, Alien, Commando. It’s mostly about tone and that’s hard to gauge in a review. I’ll pass on this one.

If anything he'd probably be bored long before it ever got to the nudity

He wanted to see No Country for Old Men. I was okay with it but my wife said no. I played him the coin flip scene TJ get his take and he said “boring” and forgot about it. You’re probably right.

Hmm.  Common Sense Media was my source.  He wasn’t dying to see it anyway.  He’s 15 and hears everything at school, but if I sit next to him at a movie full of profanity, then I feel like I’m endorsing it.  I’m overprotective.

Lol.  I was just saying to my wife while driving that the rats were real and not CGI.

Spoiler alert: there are a LOT of rats in the movie.

I can understand this POV.  Did you end up seeing it with your kid?

No, wife and I went. My son would’ve been fine, just bored.

I’ve seen 5 adaptations of this same story now and this one ranks below Herzog’s Nosferatu, the Bela Lugosi version, the Frank Langella version, and Ford Copalla’s Dracula. It’s down there with Dracula: Dead and Loving It.

I think I just don’t like this story.

Did you ever see Last Voyage of the Demeter (or something like that)?  If so was it any good?
