However there is also some talk out there that prior to the election, Trump told Bibi to delay coming to this agreement (which is essentially the same agreement that was in July) until after the election so that it wouldn’t help Biden. Right now these are only rumors. There is no proof. I hope this is not the case. Trump is IMO a shallow guy but I hope he is not shallow enough to allow hostages to remain imprisoned for the sake of winning an election.

See next comment.

If Trump is close enough to Bibi to make this happen then he assuredly delayed it to win reelection.  Trump has shown that he will do anything to get elected.  Having met with Bibi several times over the past year, I have no doubt that this is what happened.

Cultists will tell you it was Trump's threats to Hamas that caused this but Hamas has wanted a cease fire since Oct 8.

This agreement is not what Team Biden worked on .  That team would have left Hamas in charge for instance; that's not the case now.

By "innocent," do you mean the people who overwhelmingly voted Hamas into control, and continue to support them?  I mean yeah, you can find some babies who had nothing to do with the general Gaza population supporting Hamas.  Does that mean you just give them everything?  Asking from an adult perspective.

Here are the details of the ceasefire as we know it right now.  Nothing about Hamas giving up Gaza boyo.

Seems like your own article discusses it under its "unanswered questions."

Quote

What are the unanswered questions about the deal?

Getting to this point has taken months of painstaking indirect negotiations, not least because Israel and Hamas completely distrust each other.

Hamas wanted a complete end to the war before it would release the hostages, something which was unacceptable to Israel.

The ceasefire will in effect pause the war while its terms are carried out.

However, it is unclear whether it will mean the war is over for good.

One of Israel's key war aims has been to destroy Hamas's military and governing capabilities. Although Israel has severely damaged it, Hamas still has some capacity to operate and regroup.

Besides, I'm told by the Lefties that the vast majority of Palestinians just want peace, so surely they would install a peace-loving government, right?  :dunno:

There is nothing in there about Hamas giving up control as you suggested.  If you think that is part of the new deal please support your statement with a source boyo.

I also question this.  While I have no doubt that Israel will pursue their ongoing elimination, with the tacit support of the new US government, I do wonder how this might unfold.

I hope that Israel CAN in fact diminish and perhaps "eliminate" Hamas.  They are a vile entity that has only caused harm.

State Department says Hamas will not control Gaza after ceasefire

by Sofia Sorochinskaia | Jan 15, 2025 | Featured, National Security, Topics

WASHINGTON —  After Israel and Hamas agreed to a ceasefire in Gaza Wednesday and the release of some hostages, the United States remained determined to prevent Hamas from governing Gaza again, according to State Department Spokesman Matthew Miller.

According to Miller, the US had made it clear from the start of negotiations that one of the main conditions is ensuring Hamas does not return to power in Gaza.

“We hear that from countries across the region that you cannot have a terrorist organization that is committed to the destruction of Israel that has launched this horrific conflict that has resulted in the death of more than 45,000 Palestinians,” Miller told journalists during his press briefing.

After 15 months of war, the ceasefire agreement brought some hope that the bloodshed could end. During the attack on Oct. 7, more than 1,200 people were killed in Israel by Hamas-led militants. In 15 months of war, over 46,000 Palestinians were killed as a result of Israel’s attacks.

Miller said it was crucial that neither Israel nor Hamas takes power in Gaza. The parties “who we have talked to about contributing financial support, about contributing security support to Gaza, are in any way going to be willing to step up and do that if they see either a future where Gaza is dominated by Israel or if it’s dominated by Hamas,” he said.

President Joe Biden first proposed the framework for the deal in late May last year and ultimately received unanimous approval by the UN Security Council. Miller said that Hamas had been the main obstacle in reaching an agreement, especially in July and August last year, when the US thought they were getting very close to a deal.

“We saw Hamas around that point, just decide that they weren’t going to negotiate off of their position anymore. They had a position, they weren’t going to budge. They weren’t going to move at all. And we were still at the table. Israel was still willing to be at the table. Hamas wasn’t,” said Miller.

There were also periods of times, Miller added, when Hamas was unable to negotiate because they lacked leadership.

Miller ended by wishing farewell to the reporters because it was expected to be his last briefing. Some reporters used their phones to take pictures with him.

How do you keep a cultist in suspense? 🤣

Thanks for the follow up boyo and thanks for the clarification.  From your link, it was always part of the Biden plan after all.

One that brings all the hostages home, ensures Israel’s security, creates a better “day after” in Gaza without Hamas in power, and sets the stage for a political settlement that provides a better future for Israelis and Palestinians alike.

🤣

Which contradicts what you said earlier.

So we negotiated with terrorists, legitimizing them as a negotiating force.  Our negotiation was to stop working toward their emminent destruction.  For this they would give us one hostage for any 30 to 50 prisoners, some of war, some just violent criminals.  Seems to me we rewarded their hostage taking and have encouraged a repeat of the behavior.

My negotiations, which would have started on October 8th, would have been over loud speakers and through air-droped pamphlets.  It would have been, Dear Gazans, today, and every day until the hostages are released in good health and the following leaders are hog-tied and produced naked at a border checkpoint there will be death rained down upon you, your parents, grandparents, wives, and children.  There will be starvation and disease.  This horror is becasue your leaders, those you harbor, have chosen to use you as human shields for their cowardice.  We have compassion for you, but not to the point were we will cease the reign of horror unless and until our people are returned and your leaders are given over to us for our justice. I would then have announced the leaders to be turned over and then I would have bombed the out of them.  Every day before a new reign of bombing i would ahve repeated taht todays horror is becasue they ahve yet to comply with my demand for ending the war.  They can stop it any time they wish.

Some folks would question my compassion, my humanity.  Let them.  My job as a leader is not to reward terrorism, nor is it to insure the rights of those who harbor terrorists.  My job is to protect my citizens.  Is this policy unfair to the innocent children, certainly.  Life is unfair.  And I note I am willing to be fair just as soon as the side which perpetrated the war decides it wishes to play fair.  Some will say but the poor, abused Gazan citizenry has been abused for decades and naturally they rose up.  I don't care.  If they want to rise up and appeal to the world through world courts and institutions, fine.  If they want to rise up through passive reistence and non-violence, fine.  If they seek to change the status quo or to get me out of office through persuasion or through action in the courts, fine, but when they engage in a sneak attack against women and children and then capture and rape thsoe women and children they have forfeited all consideration as far as I am concerned. Those of you who support this negotiated outcome have more or less insured another round of the same horror beginning anew.  This is normalization of the October 7th event.

BOYO, you need to simmer down. The 2 guys you're going after are the most thoughtful, respectful, and well spoken conservatives in this dump. They do not deal in nasty-as-possible personal attacks like Horsemanure or peefoam. They do not resort to name calling like jon, among many others. And they're both smart, unlike the majority of MAGA simps posting here. Chill the fock out and absorb what they say. It comes from wisdom and a good place. Save the vitriol for those that deserve it.

I never served, but years ago I went to the funeral of my wife's uncle.  He was a career MP (Army, I think), but I only knew him from his post-military life.  I knew him well enough, but not that well.  Regardless, that ceremony with the flag and Taps... OMG I was a blithering idiot.  It's weird, the things that move you.  I find for me it is usually music, like the lyrics to Annie's Song by John Denver when I was facing death from cancer ("let me die in your arms...").  So maybe it was Taps, I dunno.

Anyway, sorry for the it's all about meeeeee$#@!... and sorry for your FIL.

My dad was in World War II, and I somehow gave the eulogy at his funeral as well as played Taps on my trumpet at the graveside.

My mom was absolutely terrified of what I was going to say, and I wrote one hell of a eulogy, including not only a colorful account of who the man was but all the things he had seen in his lifetime - immigration, war, all the presidents during his lifetime, all the news events and all the inventions along the way. I actually got a round of applause.

So when my mom was on her death bed, she whispered in my ear that she wanted me to give the eulogy.

It was pretty much the same crowd that was at my dad's funeral, so they all looked excited when I got up to give her eulogy, which was just as colorful as my dad's.

Yeah, his dad came over in around 1920 and built homes all over Long Island, particularly in Huntington, and then he brought over his wife and my dad in 1925. They didn't go through Ellis Island.

Can't believe that was a focking century ago.

All this death talk reminded me of something that happened when we were in Syria back in December, we setup a make shift morgue, we were looking for specific people among the dead.......well, one of those fockers in a body back sat straight upright in the bag, we nearly sh!t ourselves on the spot.  The medic nearby laughed his arse off, said it was something called "lazarous syndrome" , never heard of that before but It was seriously freaky
