(Actually I don't believe him but I like to play along)

Oh, I know he's full of crap.  I'm just playing along as well.

Also, I'm heading out for a few, so to anticipate his next idiotic comment:  this started when he made the assertion that the world is laughing at us, and now he wants me to provide evidence that the world is laughing at us, from my own personal travels.

The city is within the country.  That city belongs to the country.  The Gulf does not belong to us.  Regardless, what's the point of doing it?  I feel like Trump is doing it to piss off people and pander to his base.  Not really something I want my President to be doing.

Feel how you like, but protects the gulf the most? Who puts the most money and effort into keeping that place in the world safe?

Those are US waters.

At least in India folks would just assume they're simply smelling the local raw sewage rather than the stinky American.

Pretty clever if you ask me.

This has to be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard of.  Of course there is a grift involved.

You should read your posts.

Once again, why rename it?  What's the point other than Trump wanting to?  That's not the crap I want my President working on.  It's not needed and all it does is cause even more divide in our country and the world.  He shouldn't be doing that.

Well, since America is not our name I don't see what the point was.  Also, since Mexico is part and parcel of North America I don't see they would really care. If it was going to be changed it should have been to the Gulf of North America.

Of Course I suppose that the Canadians might want to contest that name holding out that the Hudson Bay could qualify for that title.

Every single person in this country does things that are not "needed". But some of those things help define who we are as individuals. Nations should reflect the personality of their people. Or more simply, the nations personality on the world stage. It sets the tone.

I'd rather not set the tone of the US being a giant .  Let's get back to focusing on making our country better.

It is racist move to show those Mexicans/Latinos who is in charge, same as giving the finger to Native Americans in Alaska with Mount Denali (which had been called that for centuries before being renamed Mount McKinley in 1896).

What divide is it causing if it's just a name?  I doubt he spent more than 30 seconds working on this.

It takes liberals several years of hard thinking to switch a name out. They also take a lot of time to make sure not to mention the US because to them that's racist.

I don't see how it's racist.  We're all Americans.

C'mon man!  Don't you remember how quick school districts were to change the names of elementary schools back in 2020?

You don't see the amount of people upset about and wondering why he's doing it?  Like I keep saying, what's the point?  Were voters asking him for this?

No, there were never any calls before Trump took office that the Gulf of Mexico be renamed Gulf of America (that I can ever remember).

In the grand scheme of things, it really isn't that big of deal.  That's why I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.  It's just one of those stupid things that I wish he didn't do.  I know there will be plenty more over the next 4 years.

I'm not upset.  Yes, there are people that are all pissy about it.  You know who they are.

They have bigger problems than the accurate naming of a body of water.

You're right, we have bigger problems than renaming a body of water.  Now were on the same page.

What is smart about it?

It has been labeled The Gulf Of Mexico on maps since 1550 and on historical accounts since 1552.

Accurately naming. Don’t leave that part out. Unless you don’t think it’s more accurate than the prior name?

It doesn't require a name change.  Nothing needed to be done and I don't think anyone asked for it to be done.  I think it's just Trump doing Trump things.

It didn't need to be renamed.  It also doesn't require every liberal with an axe to grind to lose their sh!t about it either.

As someone who spent a lot of my life in the Gulf Coast I love this. I have fished, skinny dipped, vacationed from Grand Isles, Venice, Biloxi MS, Gulf Shores AL, and almost every beach in Florida. Every time Im in a funk, I think about the Gulf. That’s where my ashes will be spread.

One has to conduct a focus group to comment on forming a Task Force and/or a Blue Ribbon Panel to identify and engage Stake Holders to discuss the prospect of making any policy change and then have the potential move vetted through at least two or three campaign cycles which accuse the other side of insensitivity on the issue which arises from moral and mental defects, racism being the least amoung those odious defects before the change can be made.  its a process. it is not teh due process contemplated by our Constitution, but it is a process.

Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum says her gov't will lodge a complaint with Google after it changed “Gulf of Mexico” to “Gulf of America” for US users of its map service, adding Mexico will request to rename North America as Mexican America.
