They still see value in defying him outright. The reason becomes irrelevant, its more about the act.

The Gulf of Mexico has carried that name for more than 400 years. The Associated Press will refer to it by its original name while acknowledging the new name Trump has chosen. As a global news agency that disseminates news around the world, the AP must ensure that place names and geography are easily recognizable to all audiences.

We can use this language to describe the new designation in text, photo captions, and audio and video scripts: “Trump signed an executive order renaming the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America. The order only carries authority within the U.S. Other countries and international institutions continue to use the name the Gulf of Mexico.”

For now, our maps, graphics and interactives will use Gulf of Mexico. We continue to consult with our product partners on language and labelling.

Per the AP Stylebook, you may also use Gulf or Gulf Coast to describe the body of water along the Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida coasts.

There are other examples where the AP refers to a geographical place by more than one name. For example, the Gulf of California is sometimes referred to as the Sea of Cortez. The U.S. government has designated that body of water as the Gulf of California, while Mexico recognizes it as the Sea of Cortez.

What does the AP call the river that borders the USA and Mexico?

I’ll answer it for you, boyo.  Sounds like you’re having a bad day.

The answer is that the AP calls it the Rio Grande.  That’s interesting because Mexico doesn’t call it the Rio Grande.  They call it the Rio Bravo.  So the AP calls it the American name.  In that case.  Cuz Trump didn’t change it.

You starting to see it, boyo?  Are the lightbulbs coming on?

The Leftists in here will mandate that you call use the pronouns a person chooses, even if it’s the nonsensical “they/them”.  In Wisconsin, there’s a bill on the table that changes the name of “mother” to “inseminated person”.

But they won’t use the proper name “illegal alien” (referred as such in US Laws), nor will they comply with the legal name change to “Gulf of America”.

Cuz Trump.  Viva la Resistance!

oh boyo, you're so lost.

The river has 2 names dating back hundreds of years because is spans 2 countries.  The AP uses Rio Grande in stories for America and Rio Bravo in Mexican stories.  Receipt: https://apnews.com/us-news/general-news-df7ddc8e3e4c845073e3f0e73d038eec

The AP also uses Mt McKinley and Fort Bragg now too.

Facts not feelz boyo.  Be better.

😆. I think he just proved my point, sporto.  Why can’t the AP just do the same here and use “Gulf of America” in American news stories and “Gulf of Mexico” in Mexican newspapers?

Fair is fair, boyo.
