HellToupee 1,583 Posted March 28 Just a place for random songs and discussion The Dolls were a commercial disaster but turned out to be yugely influential . Good lord this song slaps . When I'm getting home to you I gotta show you what I can do But everything connects, and that ain't nowhere Well, maybe they're just giving you all you ever wanted And maybe you never ever know what that was And maybe you're just finding it out now With a Vietnamese baby on your mind Technology satellite, well What's wrong today and why was Everyone so busy they've forgotten why they're playing And he said, what's wrong today is what wrong with you You're so sorry, busy sorry, that's all you do With a Vietnamese baby on your mind Your pretty little mind… 2
Fnord 2,051 Posted March 28 Good thread idea! Hopefully a politics-free zone where we can talk about something that truly effects our lives- great music. For some reason, the New York Dolls are one of those bands that I should really like, but never quite "got." The Clash are another good example. It's all subjective, right? Since I haven't bothered to figure out how to embed video, I'll just link Titus Andronicus- Dimed Out
thegeneral 2,881 Posted March 28 Great topic. People all like music right! Will listen to most types for at least a bit. Love dropping names into the various music apps (Spotify, Apple Music, etc) and seeing what comes off that. I’ll throw out “Boards of Canada” and “Public Service Radio” if you are in the mood for some EDM / background music. Need to be in the mood for this

Need to be in the mood for this Sirius/XM has a channel called Chill that plays this type of stuff. Trance and Deep House I think are the "genres." One of the few channels that everyone in my house is ok listening to. Good background music. I had not heard either of these songs, but have heard some other stuff from Public Service Broadcasting that I liked. I like fast music generally, so EDM is just as deep in my wheelhouse as punk, metal, and hardcore. Hell, even some bluegrass is fast as hell.
MDC 7,113 Posted March 28 I should like New York Dolls - I like a lot of music from this era (Gang of Four, Television, Wire). But for whatever reason I never really listened to them.

Don’t have Sirius but do the same on the other streaming services. The Boards of Canada are more slow but drop em in and see what you think.

But for whatever reason I never really listened to them. No one listened to the NYDs back then or even 10 years after they broke up. I was little when they were together.Their gimmick killed any chance of commercial success. Let’s just say times were different . But they were important to the NYC scene that cultivated punk and for the 80s hair metal thing. It’s hard to argue against that Johnny Thunders and Richard Hell were the 2 most influential musicians to the England punk scene Richard Hell of Television and then The Heartbeakers was the template for UK punk look/image

Fnord 2,051 Posted March 28 Old school punk/metal head buddy of mine in Austin, TX turned me onto this bunch of rowdy hooligans. Total party band, with anthemic garage/punk sound Thanks, @HellToupee for the embedding tip!

Surprised to see they were from NY. They had no presence at all on Boston radio in the 90s. Interesting sound, I get a indie countryish vibe from this song. Good stuff
BunnysBastatrds 2,306 Posted March 28 I liked this band, they were alright. I was listening to this record playing Atari with my friends. My mom bought us a pizza and “who is this?”. She loved them.

Thank god for headphones, I think I would’ve gotten in more trouble caught listening to this than if I had a hustler etc. Good times Well, well, she started to grin So I slid it right in and she said "it feels so good", and she dragged me off the bed You'll be better off dead Hey! Well, alright Well then your mother came in She was stinking of gin she said Keep your hands off my daughter You'll be better off dead The girl's only thirteen She ain't never given head So you better keep your hands off her Your hands will turn red You'll be better off dead Hey! Well, alright. BunnysBastatrds 2,306 Posted March 30 Man, I have so fawking many 80’s songs in my carousel. These two came to mind immediately. They both played on the river boat President, an old paddle boat. Great place to see a show. U2 played on it right before my time. Saw this one night.
