I know where you're coming from and I'm pissed off about it, too. It's bullshit that Americans would accept people from other countries that are looking for a better life and then watch them steal from us. But I work closely with a lot of immigrants and children of immigrants and it does no good to lump in those good, hard working people with the criminal scumbags just because they have some shared heritage. My heritage is Germanic and Irish; am I responsible for Nazis, red hair and public drunkenness??

By all means, direct your anger at the perpetrators, they have earned it. But leave it at that.

I know where you're coming from and I'm pissed off about it, too. A lot of unexpected shite came up this week, so I have to make it brief. What I resent most, is the fact that there's no transparency regarding the fiscal impact for one state (in this case Minnesota) absorbing a ridiculously disproportionate number of Somali. I think I did an adequate job of pointing this out in comment # 13. The fact that the vast majority of those who partook in the daycare fraud of 2017-2023, & the feeding our future debacle in 2020, were almost all Somali refugees that we welcomed into the state with open arms and checkbooks, fuels the flames of my distain for those people. 

Even worse, is the fact that they tell naïve Minnesotans, that while the initial costs are high, these people turn out to be a huge positive for the State in the long term.

This is BS to the nth degree.

If that was truly the case, wouldn't other states who receive a disproportionately low number, complain that they aren't getting a fair shake ?

I have never heard reasonable rationale for why so many of them ended up in MN. I would be curious to learn that myself. I do remember growing up here and in those days we directed the same ire at the SE Asian refugee population, most of which was completely unwarranted and poorly disguised racism, IMO ("did you hear the g00ks are eating our dogs?"). 40 years later, nobody says a word about them unless discussing driving habits. I suspect 20 years from now there will be a new group to piss on (Palestinians?) and we won't be talking about Somalians/east Africans anymore.

I will disagree with you on the bolded. Like I said, I work with a lot of folks from east Africa and mostly they're excellent people. Some of their stories are insane, like the Lost Boys of Sudan. I've had employees tell me about how at 10 years old, they didn't know how to ride a bicycle, but they were well versed in how to use a rifle to commit murder. You and I will never understand what it was like to grow up under those circumstances. Like every ethnicity, some are dumb and lazy, and some are smart and hard working. They want to live their lives in peace, work, raise kids, practice their religion, enjoy their weekends.

Anecdotally, I've noticed a propensity for selfishness and less regard for rules and norms, which can be maddening. But when you had to commit crimes to survive from an early age, it's understandably damaging. I just try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt until shown it's not deserved.

I'd guess that they do not commit crimes at a higher rate than any other population, but haven't looked into the numbers.
