Yes, but the temptation of big money & power can be overwhelming. That’s why it’s good to support people who promote campaign finance reform & a healthy, independent DA/AG office.

So then No

The Oct. 9 indictment, for its part, is vague about the allegations that James received rental income from the property. It says only that she reported “thousand(s) of dollars in rents received” for tax purposes.

James’ 2020 tax return reflected $1,350 in rental income, which was paid to cover the cost of utilities, according to ABC News.<<

>>“The problem is there is absolutely no statement ever made by James that she would not rent out the property — the contract language does not prohibit rentals, it prohibits rentals via a third party.”<<

Leader Trump has fired the FHFA Inspector General investigating the FHFF Director’sI handling of the James case.

>>Allen received notice of his termination from the White House after he made efforts to provide key information to prosecutors in that office, according to four sources. The information he turned over was constitutionally required, two of them said, while a third described it as being potentially relevant in discovery.

His ouster also came about as he was preparing to send a letter to Congress notifying lawmakers that the FHFA was not cooperating with the inspector general's office, three of the sources said. These individuals said the FHFA director would typically have been notified of such a letter.<<

>>WSJ: Pukte fired IG watchdogs investigating his illegal accessing of mortgage records.

Fannie Mae Watchdogs Probed How Pulte Obtained Mortgage Records of Key Democrats

FHFA’s acting inspector general handed probe report to U.S. attorney office that had indicted New York Attorney General Letitia James

Fannie Mae watchdogs who were removed from their jobs had been probing if Trump appointee Bill Pulte had improperly obtained mortgage records of key Democratic officials, including New York Attorney General Letitia James, according to people familiar with the matter.

Fannie’s ethics and investigations group had received internal complaints alleging senior officials had improperly directed staff to access the mortgage documents of James and others, according to the people. The Fannie investigators were probing to find out who had made the orders, whether Pulte had the authority to seek the documents and whether or not they had followed proper procedure, the people said.<<

Notice how the Trump DOJ doesn’t employ Special Counsel. That office requires accounting of costs among other procedures.

So has the admin done anything to ensure that Halligan can actually be considered to have been legally hired?

Nope…

They are basically trying to ignore the court order. All they will actually accomplish is to get every case with her name on it thrown out of court.

A Grand Jury Again Declines to Re-Indict Letitia James

A grand jury in Alexandria, Va., on Thursday rejected the Trump administration’s effort to bring new charges against Letitia James, the New York attorney general, according to people familiar with the matter, exactly one week after another set of jurors did the same.

The back-to-back failures by prosecutors to secure an indictment amounted to a striking rejection of the administration’s retribution campaign. It highlighted the Justice Department’s unusual strategy of pursuing second indictments despite earlier failures in court and suggested the department would face major hurdles in bringing charges against President Trump’s foes.

Nothing bars the U.S. attorney’s office in Eastern Virginia from trying again to indict Ms. James, though a judge might look askance at multiple juries’ having rejected the charges.

Bruce Green, who teaches legal ethics at Fordham Law School in New York, said there was no constitutional provision forbidding the repeated presentation of the same case to different grand juries, though he added that most prosecutors “would take a hint” after being rejected once or twice.

“If a grand jury isn’t indicting and you don’t even have a lawyer on the other side presenting a defense, that’s a pretty strong sign that you don’t have a tryable case,” he said.

A lawyer for Ms. James, Abbe D. Lowell, said in a statement Thursday that the second rejection ”makes even clearer that this case should never have seen the light of day.”

“This case already has been a stain on this department’s reputation and raises troubling questions about its integrity,” he said. “Any further attempt to revive these discredited charges would be a mockery of our system of justice.”  [...]

The US Attorney for NDNY John Sarcone has been declared illegally appointed.

>>>A judge on Thursday barred the top federal prosecutor in Albany, N.Y., from any further involvement with a civil rights investigation into the state’s attorney general, Letitia James, in another setback for the Trump administration as it pursues Ms. James.

The prosecutor, John A. Sarcone III, can no longer lead the investigation after lawyers for Ms. James challenged the legitimacy of his appointment as they sought to quash subpoenas related to the matter, one of several inquiries that the Justice Department has mounted against the attorney general.

Mr. Sarcone, the acting U.S. attorney for the Northern District of New York, remains in charge of the office, though the decision by the judge, Lorna G. Schofield, opens the possibility that Mr. Sarcone could be completely removed from the post.<<<

DOJ now pushing investigation of James in Louisiana

>>

Ms. James has not been accused of any wrongdoing in relation to Ms. Marsh, nor has Ms. Marsh been accused of wrongdoing related to the attorney general. But prosecutors have expressed interest in payments that Ms. James’s 2018 campaign for attorney general made to Ms. Marsh to rent a Brooklyn studio she owns. They have also scrutinized payments to Ms. Marsh related to a musical performance at an Albany, N.Y., political event.

According to a 2019 article from The Wall Street Journal, Ms. Marsh received $36,000 in all, including $22,000 for the studio. At the time, the campaign said, Ms. Marsh had also worked as an event manager.<<

- James’ hairdresser in NYC apparently defrauded a woman in Ohio so naturally the case was filed in Lake Charles LA.

- Iirc James has already gotten through something like 4 attempted investigations between NY & VA.
