I really get the sense that from health care to trade to executive power maga has really undertaken positions to the far, far left from the 1980s. It's weird stuff. Basically the accusation more and more is that power needs to be centralized and any ills can be resolved by Daddy State Trump.

This whole discussion went on during Obamacare / ACA and even before. IMO legislation is needed, in which case it's legal. Which really many a progressive and even socialist (say a Sanders) would have loved back in the day but any attempt by Obama or Clinton or Biden would be met with howls (and IIRCC they tried for legislation at least once if not more). Otherwise what Trump described is straight out price controls issued by central planning.
