The Real timschochet 7,335 Posted 8 hours ago When the Tea Party protests occurred in 2009 a lot of people, myself included, dismissed them as manufactured events paid for by billionaires like Charles Koch which would have no effect on events. We were wrong. The next year, 2010, saw a large Republican wave election led by the Tea Party movement. These current protests are much bigger than the Tea Party ever was and I think conservatives are making the same mistake we did back then.

Rather than argue over the actual numbers, would you agree that yesterday’s peaceful protests were significantly large?

You can work of Saturdays and still attend. I’d bump that variable way down (kind of surprised by that number TBH). Many people brought their kids, I’d bump that up. Of the various butthurt and ridiculous posts about yesterday from the board shut-ins…the one that I would agree with is this is not important without doing something about it in elections. Put up some numbers next election people.

But certainly more people took their kids to kid event than to a protest. And there are countless other exclusions. People who are sick, traveling, don't have transportation, etc.
Ron_Artest 2,097 Posted 7 hours ago Regardless of the number, a large number of Americans came out to protest Trump. He has a <40% approval rate. We're worse off than we were a year ago. Trump 2.0 has been bad and the midterms will reflect this.

With pictures and the numbers projected from the big cities alone couple million is easily gotten to. Impressive showing. We’ll see how it translates to people actually voting. The midterms are typically a bloodbath for the party in the WH. Lots of shenanigans in the House with redistricting and the like but will be surprising if that doesn’t flip to Dems. I honestly don't know. I've seen a lot of assertions of paid protestors. I will say that the sheer number of them was impressive, although I presume the majority were an old couple sitting on their front lawn with a "no kings" sign. Also the lack of violence was impressive.

Thanks for replying like a normal person. I mean they start and end in big cities. They are shutting down streets, coordinating with cops, speakers, etc. For buses and the like doesn’t it make sense that places organize rides into the city? If hundreds of thousands of people were getting paid I think that would be easy to prove.

Since @The Real timschochetasserts that one of the tangible goals of these protests was to raise funds, did the DNC and/or some other organization pay for all of the public resources needed to put on these fundraisers errr... protests? I am guessing sure there are organizations which help arraign protests. Things like organization, communication, outreach, and transportation in some cases. They have some staff that get paid along with volunteers. That makes sense. If there were protestors getting paid to show up wouldn’t that be easy to find is my point. Like are they going to be that secretive about this. I’d think there’s be tons of trolls who would take a check just to show up then cause havoc or just leave immediately and the like. The Real timschochet 7,335 Posted 6 hours ago 1 hour ago, jerryskids said: Also the lack of violence was impressive. No it really wasn’t. You only believe this because you bought into the nonsense that liberal protests are inherently violent. The truth is that, on either side, the only sort of protest that brings about violence is when the protest is because of a specific perceived injustice- the beating of Rodney King and acquittal of the police officers that did it, the murder of George Floyd, MAGA believing that Trump was cheated out of an election. And even in those cases the violence is typically unrelated to the actual organized protestors. Political protests that are organized as a result of longstanding or larger concerns- e.g. the Civil Rights movement, the Tea Party movement, or the No Kings movement- do not result in violence. This has been true in American society ever since Martin Luther King. Jr., following the example of Mahatma Gandhi, set the template for the modern day protest. The fact that there was no violence yesterday was entirely predictable as I wrote prior to the protests.
