When Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 Presidential race on July 21, 2024, all of the primaries and caucuses had already been held. 

 

He had already secured the estimated majority of delegates needed to win the Democratic nomination, becoming the presumptive Democratic nominee on March 12, 2024.

 

The delegates, who were pledged to vote for Biden based on the primary results, were then free to support another candidate.
