The Trump administration will start sharing the personal information of nearly 79 million Medicaid enrollees, including home addresses and ethnicities, with federal immigration authorities as the president seeks to ramp up deportations.

In a statement to NBC News on Thursday, Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin described the latest data-sharing agreement between her agency and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services as "an initiative" to ensure undocumented immigrants don't access Medicaid benefits.

Is there anything this guy can do that y'all won't just waive off?

Disclosing any tiny shred of one patient's Personal Health Information with a third party would get me fired immediately, potentially with charges to follow. Our POTUS just gave a federal agency all of the PHI of ~80 million people. This is gross. If a Dem did this you guys would be howling about it.

Well, TBH, I would be in such shock that a Democrat actually tried to do something about illegal immigration I probably wouldn't be able to say anything. 

But, no, seriously, I would be okay with it if a Democrat did it too since it would be done to combat illegal immigration.  We still need to go after ALL businesses and individuals who employ these people as well and make  examples out of them too.  Make it so the penalty is so harsh that no one will ever employ an illegal and so it becomes a disincentive for anyone considering coming here illegally.

Well, with only infrequent exceptions (for emergency care in most cases) undocumented immigrants are not eligible to receive Medicaid benefits. So the VAST majority of those ~80m people are legal US citizens. And their personal health information, which is protected by law, and which insurance and healthcare companies go to extreme lengths to maintain confidentiality for, was just given to ICE. I haven't been able to verify the extent of the information being released, but at the very least it's names, addresses, SS #'s and other info.

I don't really want someone from ICE to know if my clientele is being seen for HIV, or a STD, or mental health evaluations. Or my SS. There are ways to do this that do not compromise millions of people, but that would have taken planning, patience, and foresight. We all know Trump is incapable of any of that. So he just said "F it" and broke the law. Again.

Fair enough, and I'm mostly onboard with your view here. I do see health information as private myself so there has to be a compromise here on how this is handled, IMO.  I mean, SOMEONE is looking at this info on a daily basis anyways and maybe THOSE people disseminate the appropriate data to ICE as opposed to ICE getting their hands on it.  As a software developer myself, there ARE ways to do this to limit the info someone can search on and receive back.

You don't say? Then why, pray tell, has our dear president decided to break the law instead of follow it? That's a rhetorical question. He does it because he thinks it doesn't pertain to him.

Those that are hired to access it every day work under strict confidentiality laws and institutional rules. I would be fired for accessing my own kid's PHI if there is no clinical or otherwise justifiable need. Trump just mandated that a federal law enforcement agency, with zero training for handling PHI, receive the most sensitive and protected information available. The vast majority of which does not even assist them in their duties, since undocumented immigrants aren't eligible for Medicaid.
