Trump deploying the National Guard to the streets of Washington D.C

Marc Elias:

"JD Vance acts like he is afraid to walk outside Union Station. I mean, there is something very un-alpha male about a lot of the things that they're doing... the whole reason why the National Guard is in Washington, DC is because some dweeb teenage kid named Big Balls got beat up."

It is baffling that liberals will latch on to the worst possible position (supporting crime) rather than allow Trump anything, its just crazy

Lots like the movie Barfly when the guy next door to Henry is slapping his woman around. Henry tries to stop it and the guy says “she likes it” and then she says “yeah, I like it”.

The biggest beneficiaries of this move are the good people of DC, those who are out there every day working hard to make a decent living.....mostly minorities as well, they benefit from this the most.  Even if white liberals dont like it, making peoples lives better is always worth the effort

If they’re such beneficiaries, do you want to explain why they overwhelmingly oppose this move and consider themselves LESS safe with the National guard there?

It’s no surprise that putting military in US cities reduces crime while they’re there. When I was in Switzerland I didn’t see a policeman but there were armed soldiers everywhere and no crime. Also no poverty.

Reasonable quesstion from the Twitters:

Why are states like Ohio sending national guard troops to DC to help fight crime when there are cities in Ohio with higher crime rates per capita than DC?????

Because they dont, CNN is lying and should not be trusted.  They only report in a way as to oppose the political right, with no real regard for the actual lived experiences of the people.

Of course the Washington Post understands this and is actually asking those people.....

Here's one explanation, from your link:

Quote

Trump, who was supported by just over 6% of DC voters in last year’s presidential election, remains broadly unpopular in the District, the poll finds, with his overall job approval rating now standing at just 15% among all residents.

How can a city have 94% support of the same Leftist policies that have turned it into a cesspool?  Is it some sort of Stockholm Syndrome effect?  Or are they just a broken populace?

Well at least this is a more reasonable explanation than “CNN is lying.”

But I still think you’re wrong. Despite the fact that these are Democrats, if they truly believed that Trump’s intent was to fight crime and maintain law and order, they would be in support of it.

They shouldn't care.  If the end result is that crime goes down and law and order is restored, they shouldn't care what the motivation is.

But that’s the point. Is crime going down and law and order restored? There’s a lot of question about that. These folks say they feel LESS safe, not more.

It's a weird flex I've seen from several lefties in the media; the "yeah DC is a shiothole but I'm not afraid to sprint from my car to my apartment, what are you a poosay?!" card.  We'll see how that works out for you.

The people who live in these neighborhoods overwhelmingly endorse MORE police presence.  It's the luxury belief lefties posting from Pasadena or Laguna Beach who complain about it.

💯 Jerry!

Let @The Real timschochet  or @Ron_Artest get robbed at gunpoint at their front door, their kid get their brains based in and their wives get tuned by an illegal alien and see how fast their beliefs change.

No there isn't. As someone posted, this is the first week D.C. has gone without a murder in a long time.  So LIVES were literally saved.  And the D.C. Police released violent crime stats the other day comparing violent crime for the 7 days after Trump took control of policing D.C. versus prior to that and there were significant decreases across the board with violent crime.  You are entitled to your opinion but you aren't entitled to your own set of facts.

Yes there actually IS  a lot of question. Some of the “facts” you’re citing are quite problematic. Let’s take for example the “no murders in 1 week” claim. The problem with that claim is that we know that, per reporting,  the National Guard is NOT patrolling most of the areas in which the highest rate of murders take place, choosing instead to concentrate on heavy tourist areas. And the number of regular police hasn’t increased in those high crime areas. So if there are less murders (and I actually think it’s too early to make this assumption) then it’s not because of the National Guard.

If it turns out that crime is down because of this move, I’ll be the first to admit it (though I will still argue that choosing a Democratic city filled with minorities vs red cities even more violent with mostly white people, like Mike Johnson’s district, was done for political and frankly racist reasons), but the sample size is as of now a little bit too early.

Don’t worry, they won’t be there forever. Then the residents of DC can have their city back. Good luck!

And I’m telling you that if DC was run by Republicans and wasn’t full of black people Trump would have chosen somewhere else, capital or no. This is about politics and race first, crime second.

OK what about Democrat run cities? Are you going to make the false assumption that they’re worse on crime because of Demxoratic policies? Because it’s a lie:

Oh man. You don’t have two eyes? Ever been anywhere? Ever go to the south Bronx? Taking an Uber to a show isn’t  really giving you a look at NYC. HTH. But go ahead and drive around LA and tell us how nice it is. Was.

It IS true that big cities in this country are mostly Democratic. This is because big cities are filled with minorities and minorities choose liberals to govern them mostly, because conservatives have been historically reluctant to do anything about racism (and sometimes even elect racist politicians like Donald Trump or Woodrow Wilson.) This was true before the Civil Rights era when conservatives were mostly Democrats, and still true today when they are almost all Republicans.

Giving them stuff has nothing to do with it either.

Should I drive through Appalachia? Mississippi? Alabama?

Crime is a result of poverty. Not of race. Bigots like Trump will never accept this. And you support him.

Whatever stuff was given was chicken feed compared to the stuff they lack form institutional racism. And it was never enough to provide them equal opportunities in our society.

Really? My whole family lived in poverty for centuries. Not a cut throat among them. When Jews lived in poverty were they criminals too?

No idea what your point is here. Most people who live in poverty don’t commit crimes. Even less commit violent crimes. If your family are part of the majority, great. But crime and especially violent crime, while always uncommon, are nonetheless more prevalent among poorer people. This isn’t rocket science. And even MORE prevalent among people who have suffered forced inequity in society due to institutional bigotry.
