Cracker Barrel loses nearly $100 million in market value after logo backlash

WASHINGTON (TNND) — Cracker Barrel is facing a customer revolt and a market hit after unveiling a new logo last week that removed one of its most recognizable features: the old man leaning against a barrel. The brand refresh, meant to modernize the 55-year-old chain, instead triggered an internet firestorm — and wiped nearly $100 million off the company’s market value.

I have no dog in this fight. I’ve eaten at Cracker Barrel less than 5 times in my life. The closest one is ant least  an hour away. I could give 2 shits if they make it.

If I were the one making the decisions, I’d conduct some research to find out why sales were declining. I can guarantee the logo wasn’t the reason.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this was all part of the marketing strategy to try to become more relevant. Create controversy…temporary hit to sales/value, and then hope there’s a bounce back when they say, “just kidding…we aren’t changing the logo.”
