Watched it live.   Couldn't believe it.

Crazy thing is, the runner missed home plate.  But the Phillies just quit on that play.

Kerkering had a throw to first, utter brain lock. I felt pretty bad for him, he’s 24 y/o. Dodgers were/are the better team.

Yep. I’m a baseball casual so I wasn’t crushed. I felt terrible for the kid. It was nice to see the team consoling him. Phils probably lose anyway but he’s got to be on suicide watch.

Bill Buckner can finally rest

My buddy sent me a text last night about Billy Bucks! Asked me if i wanted his rookie card, he was going through some old stuff. He knows what a huge fan I was of his.

When I was in my 20s last night would’ve ruined my week. I’m too old to get that worked up. :(

   They have won enough to make it easier. We in Boston finally know that feeling, but the hurt runs deep

What is still mind numbing to me to this day.

The nitwits that think the Red Sox would have won if Buckner made that play. The game was tied

You're right.  Buckner's error didn't cost them the series, this play literally did.

True or false, the game was already tied when Buckner made the error?

True or false, there was a Game 7 after Buckner's error?

True or false, the Red Sox had a 3-0 after 5 innings in Game 7?

Boston had already given up the lead in Game 6, if he Buckner makes that play, the game still continues.  Boston also still had a chance to win the World Series after losing that game, because the series was tied and in Game 7, had the lead.

This error won the Dodgers the game and knocked the Phillies out of the playoffs.  The series WAS over as a result of this play.

True or false ? That was a seven game WORLD SERIES and this was a 5 game ALDS ?

True or False ? World Series is more important than Division Series ?

Sorry Bill. Still on the hook

True

True

(why not answer my questions???)

Either case, the Red Sox didn't lose anything because of Buckner, the Phillies did.

True. My point was even the casual baseball fan knows about the ‘86 World Series and BIll and Mookie play. I already forgot the pitchers name from last night. 10 years from now no one is going to remember that play the way they remember Mookie’s hit.

That's more of a societal issue than a baseball issue.  People lived and died by baseball back in the 80's.  It was the king of sports and there wasn't a 10 minute news life cycle.  Doesn't mean this play was more impactful.  It also underscores how stubborn people were back in the 80's.

Along with the Phillies and Eagles both losing, the Flyers lost as well...  Too bad the Sixers play tonight instead of last night in their preseason game...

I was waiting for that. Mookie would have been safe. He would have beaten Bill to the bag.
